Manly 10 KM FUN RUN

On 3rd Feb, Saturday I went for the 10 km Manly Fun Run with some of my friends.

Manly Fun Run is a popular, family-friendly event which invites participants of all levels to take part in a fun-filled weekend featuring the Dee Why to Manly Sun Run. The run is through the picturesque Manly beach headland and the national park of North Head, with distances of 10km, 5km and 2km. Both the 5km and 2km events are pram friendly. Apart from the fun and fitness you will be helping to raise monies for the many charities that Manly Rotary support on the peninsula and throughout Sydney.

I had done City2Surf before but this was my first time for this event.

We went and stayed in a hotel in Manly the night before. We went for an early dinner and went to bed by 9:30 as we were heading to Dee why at 6 am the next morning.

On the day of the run we woke up early, got ready and caught a bus to Dee Why. The bus was full of people doing the same event so everyone looked excited and ready to run.

As we got off the bus and walked to the start point, it started raining so heavily that we all got drenched before the race had even started. I had never had this experience before. Although in another 5 minutes the rain got lighter and we started the run. There was more hill in this run that City2Surf but they were smaller ones.

It was definitely a good run as we ran along picturesque beach looking at some amazing house and beautiful park.

Along the way, there were a few drizzles and once it rained heavily but we enjoyed the cool rain as we were running.

Personally, I felt the run was good and not as difficult as expected.

We finished the run in an hour and 17 minutes which was not bad considering we ran and walked few kms as well.

It was a great experience and I am glad I did it. I hope to plan and run more this year.

Singapore adventures

As I had mentioned before, we went to Singapore for our Christmas – New Year break.

Initially, I really want to go to Phillipines but we end up going to Singapore at the last minute. Can you imagine the cost of the flight and accommodation when you book during such a busy period? I am just glad that we still managed to have a holiday.

Anyway, Chhori was excited about the holiday from the day we booked the flight and told her about it.

I am so glad to see that she will be a traveler like her parents and enjoy new stuff in life. When we were boarding our flight to Singapore, she was so excited that she was dancing and jumping and saying, “We are going to Singapore for holiday.” Making all the onlookers smile.

We had an evening flight from Sydney so it was perfect for Chhori and me as she slept most of the 9 hours flight while AS couldn’t sleep a wink. For some reason AS can’t sleep on the plane making it hard for him when we reach our destination.

When we reached Singapore, it was 3 am in the morning so we caught a cab 🚕 and went straight to our hotel. We checked in and were very happy with our room. We got upgraded to a better room and I am so thankful to Novotel for that. They definitely gave us a very good start to our holiday.

We decided to sleep for a few hours and woke up hungry. We had breakfast at the hotel itself and decided to go to the city for the day.

We used GRAB, a car hailing app like Uber, while in Singapore and it was so convenient as well as saving us heaps of money.

Our first stop was the Merlion Park and Marina bay. As tourists do, we went around and took heaps of photos with all the iconic monuments. 

Chhori was equally excited to see this new city. I have been to Singapore before but this time it is so much better as my baby and my better half were with me.

From there we walked the bridge to go to the other side to Mariana bay shopping centre. We had lunch there and found this amazing activities for kids.

Chhori was excited to ride on animals, play on the big sandpits with balls and toys. We spent more than one hour there before going to an art and crafts stall where we painted and made snow man out of paper before leaving.

By then Chhori was so tired that she decided to sleep on the stroller.

We decided we should have dinner before leaving and found this little restaurant serving local food. 

I ordered chicken laksa and AS had pork belly. The food was amazing and it came with local tea and koffee as they call it.

We had an amazing first day in Singapore and were very excited for the rest of the trip.

Pole dancing , magic mike and whole new vocabulary 😊

Hello everyone and a very happy 2018. I can’t believe that time is passing so fast.

I am back from my holiday and looking forward to another holiday soon  🙂

As soon as we came back from holiday I went to the hen’s night for one of my cousins and it was quite a night.

That Saturday evening, 10 gals glammed up to celebrate our dear cousion’s journey from Miss to Mrs. They are going to Nepal to celebrate their wedding but we planned her hen’s night here as not all of us will go to Nepal for the wedding.

The night started with us gathering in the city and marching to a pole dancing studio where we were greeted with a glass of champagne.

This was my first experience with pole dancing so I didn’t know what to expect. We were all excited.

We were asked to change into sexy hot outfits. There were heaps of laughs and giggles as we tried to find the right outfit for us. I found this one piece black dress with beads and sequins.

Once everyone were ready, the instructor showed us a few easy steps and we followed her. It was really fun and not as hard as I had expected. We had so much fun but the highlight of the day was the instructor’s 5 minute performance for us. It felt like she didn’t have any bones on her body as she seemed to flow on the pole.

After the dancing, we caught a cab and went to the second venue where we were going to have dinner and watch a show. I didn’t know what to except for this event as well but we were all pleasantly surprised.

We were greeted by topless waiters (guys) with a glass of champagne and escorted to our tables. The venue was not very big with only 5 big tables including ours. Most of them seemed to be there for hen’s night and there were only 2 males in the whole room apart from the waiters.

As we all sat down, entree was served and the show started with a strip tease. It was definitely a very new experience for most of us.

After a few shows, they offered body shot options for whoever dared. That was the first new word for us for the night 😄.

Body shot – Shot of tequila served with a topless waiter laying on the floor with salt on his body, shot glass on his mouth and lemon 🍋 slice on his mouth. Now I let you imagine how you drink the shot 😊.

Later, they served a yummy dinner. I had salmon with veggies as more shows were performed.

Then we decided that the bride 👰 needed to have a very expensive special desert.

Special desert – Icecream 🍦 covered all over the topless waiter and it is up to you as to how you eat them 😊

Anyway, we had a great night and we stayed there until they closed at 11:30.

After the last shot and the last dance there, we moved to the nightclub upstairs and danced till dawn when everyone was tried and ready to crash on their bed.

Overall, it was a great way to start my new year. I hope all of your new year has begun with some excitement and fun like mine 😊.

Merry Christmas, we are off to Singapore!!!

Hello everyone,

Hope you guys are having a great Christmas Day and enjoying the holidays. In Sydney we are having a gloomy day but we are not complaining as we had so many hot days recently that is it a nice change.

Sun, Sea and Santa is the easiest way to describe our Christmas 🙂

We are off to Singapore for our holiday and looking forward to having a fun time. I will see you all when we are back again in a week’s time.

Luau – Experiencing the food and culture of the Hawaiian Islands

A visit to the Hawaiian Islands is not complete without experiencing a luau. Luau a Hawaiian feast featuring lively music and vibrant cultural performances from Hawaii and greater Polynesia.

Even though Hawaii is part of the United States, it has a very distinct cultural heritage that distinguishes it from other states. To enjoy this wonderful culture, we went to Luau one evening. After lots of research we picked Chief’s Luau and it was a good choice as it turned out to be an amazing experience.

We were picked up from our hotel and taken on a bus to Sea Life Park. Our guide was Cousin Ben and he was really funny. He entertained us for the entire journey, sharing some great jokes.

Once we got to the Sea life park, we were greeted with drinks and a seashell garland and then taken to our seat.

The whole thing was set right on the beach with a perfect view of the sunset. There was a stall selling souvenirs and a guy doing temporary tattoos. We joined the queue and all of us got a tattoo each. Chhori loved hers so much that she kept on talking about it the whole night.

While everything was being organized the guest were being entertained with spear throwing and leaf headband demonstrations.

We made a few headbands with the help of the staff which we wore through the evening.

The main course at a luau is kalua pua’a – pork roasted for eight hours in a pitlike earthen oven known as imu. They showed us how a pig is unburied before being served to the guests.

The food is buffet style and has kalua pua’a, fresh mahi-mahi and poi (mashed taro plant) and an array of salads and sides. I would say the food was OK as I was not overly impressed but it made us full for sure.

I actually enjoyed the hula and fire dancing. The chief introduced each dance and we enjoyed the Chief’s Journey through the Polynesian Islands which included New Zealand Haka and the Fijian Warrior Dance.

Also during this dancing, the volunteers were asked to come on stage to dance with the dancers. Chhori wanted me to go on the stage so we went on the stage together and we had a great time. It was fun as we danced with the drum beats.

We also went on the stage when they called for people celebrating anniversaries as we were there for our 6th anniversary as well. We were given a beautiful bouquet of flowers and drinks.

The fire dancers at the end was amazing and it was the highlight of the show for me.

Overall, we enjoyed the show a lot.

After the Luau was over Cousin Ben took us back to our hotel.

Some Popular Luau Dishes

Poi: Pounded taro plant root; a starch meant to be eaten with everything.

Kalua Pig: Pork prepared in an imu or underground oven and shredded.

Chicken Long Rice: A chicken noodle soup-like dish with bean thread noodles and ginger.

Laulau: Meat wrapped in luau (taro) leaves and steamed. Traditionally, this is prepared in an underground oven called an imu.

Lomilomi Salmon: A side dish made from salmon, tomatoes, onion and crushed ice.

Haupia: Coconut pudding.

Poke: The term literally means “to slice cross-wise into pieces” and commonly features raw fish served with a variety of condiments such as shoyu (soy sauce), green onions, kukui nut (candlenut), limu (seaweed). However, the dish isn’t exclusively fish-based and there are other variations as well.
