A Wild Day Out at Zoodoo Zoo

We recently visited Zoodoo Zoo in Richmond, Tasmania – and what a fun day it was for the whole family, especially the kids! It’s a perfect mix of hands-on animal encounters, educational displays, and plenty of space to run around and explore.

🎟️ Tickets were very reasonably priced – around $37.50 per adult and $19.95 for children (under 2s go free), with family passes available too. You can buy your tickets online or at the gate.

πŸ“ Located just a short drive from Hobart, Zoodoo is easy to get to and has free parking on site.

Our adventure began with the primates – we saw monkeys, lemurs, and colourful birds, which were a hit with the kids. After that, we made our way to the reptile area, which had a large collection of snakes. The walls were filled with informative displays that made it a great learning experience.

Next stop: the big cats! We saw the lions and the tiger – though they were having a little nap when we arrived. Still amazing to see them up close.

Then came one of the most exciting parts – feeding the ostrich! We bought a bag of animal food from the shop and were allowed to feed the ostrich and even some zebras, which the kids absolutely loved.

From there, we wandered over to the barnyard where we could feed and pat rabbits, a cow, and a sweet little pony. There was also a fun playground nearby where the kids had a quick run around before heading to the kangaroo area. This was easily one of the highlights – there were so many kangaroos and they weren’t shy at all. The kids had the best time feeding them and spending time up close with these gentle animals.

After that, we visited the sheep and then made our way to the aviary and Tasmanian devil enclosure. The Tasmanian devils were surprisingly cute, and we were lucky enough to catch one of the zookeeper talks – very informative and engaging!

We ended our visit at the maze – it’s a small one, but the kids had heaps of fun getting β€œlost” and running around.

Overall, Zoodoo Zoo was such a memorable experience – hands-on, well spaced out, and very kid-friendly. Highly recommend for a family day out if you’re in Tasmania.
