Chhori’s Bhai Tika

We just finished our second biggest festival of the year, Tihar on Saturday.

Please click here to know more about the festival.

Sharing some photos of the day as it was so cute to see Chhori independently doing her Bhai Tika to my nephew.

Here are the posts I have written regarding Tihar over the years.

PJ Masks show and Paw Petrol

If you don’t have children around you, I will forgive for not knowing what PJ Masks and Paw Patrol are.

PJ Masks is an animated children’s television series which follows three 6-year-olds, Connor, Amaya, and Greg, who lead relatively normal lives by day, where they are neighbours, classmates, and friends. However, at night, they become Catboy, Owlette, and Gekko, and fight crime as the PJ Masks, a superhero team. Together they go on adventures, defeat criminals, solve mysteries, and learn valuable lessons.

Chhori loved them so much that recently we bought her Owlette. She take her with her almost everywhere.

So when we saw a show coming up for PJ Masks, we decided to take her. We told her where we were going and she was really excited. She will jump and sing, “PJ Masks are on their way – into the night to save the day …“She does mess up the words a bit but it is nice to see her all excited.

So when we went to see the show, obviously there were lots of kids and parents. Some kids were dressed as Catboy, Owlette, and Gekko or have some toy with them.  We dressed Chhori as a Batgirl and obviously she took her Owlette with her.

We arrived early and sat at the middle of the stage. Slowly the place started to fill up and then the most awaited Catboy, Owlette, and Gekko came on stage.

They talked, they sang and they danced. She had a great time. Then they said their good bye and left.

When they were existing the stage, Chhori started to cry and said, “I want PJ Masks.”

I didn’t know what to do so started to talk to her and explain to her that they will come again next time. After a while she was OK.

I got to know about Paw Parol from my nephew and Chhori started loving it too recently.

PAW Patrol is an animated television series focuses on a boy named Ryder who leads a pack of rescue dogs known as the PAW Patrol. They work together on missions to protect the shoreside community of Adventure Bay.

There are 6 dogs

  • Marshall is a Dalmatian.
  • Rubble is an English bulldog.
  • Chase is a German shepherd.
  • Rocky is a grey-and-white mongrel of an unspecified breed.
  • Zuma is a chocolate Labrador retriever.
  • Skye is a cockapoo.

As I am a nice mum ;), I decide to buy her a set of Paw Patrol bowl, cup and spoon.

Last week, I was so excited and gave her the cup with milk in it. She was so excited at first and then she looked at the cup and started crying saying, “Where is Skye?”

I know that Skye is her favorite character and we have few of her in our house but didn’t realise that they only put 5 dogs on the cup and the bowl. Seriously, who made that stupid decision? I did’t think about checking either when I buy them.

Anyway, it took me good 5 minutes to explain to her that Skye was in mission when the photo was taken and after that she went on a holiday. Finally she understood and I was relived.

Next day, my nephew was around and of course when saw the cup asked the same question.

Chhori replied,” Skype went on mission and on holiday so she is not here.”

Do share you own experience with all the commercialised cartoons kids watch these day.

You are not my best friend

I am sure you can tell from my posts lately that life is all about Chhori these days. I am loving that she is growing up to be a cute little talker who doesn’t waste time and tells you exactly how she feels.

She has got good manners and says Thank you and Please (most of the time 🙂 ). She sometimes say unexpected things like,

Looking good mama

New dress

You sick?”

Good job

Light off please

I always wanted her to grow up to be a strong , confident independent woman but then I have to go through all these phases of her attitudes which I am not ready for.

There have been times she says NO to things and we have to tell her why she has to eat/do/ wear it etc.

AS is so patient with her and explains her everything, I am just grateful that he is part of this whole parenting process.

Anyway these days, when I pick her up from childcare she tells me about her day and depending on who she played with on that day, “Jacob/Ivy/Monique/Abby/Nathan is my best friend.”

And then she started saying,” Mama, you are my best friend” or “Papa, you are my best friend.”

It is so sweet because she will come and hug and kiss.  She comes and says “Hug me please

She shows so much of love that I can’t get enough of it.

But then when she is denied something, she makes this sweet angry face and says, “You are not my best friend.” Or “I don’t like you.”

She looks so cute that I have to hide my laugh and concentrate on disciplining her.

Life is so much better being a parent for sure.

Do share your own sweet moments with your toddler.

October long weekend road trip – Malua Bay and Hyams Beach

Last long weekend we went to the south coast of Sydney with a few of our friends. We had a great time and so much fun.

Malua Bay is a locality in the South Coast region of the state of New South Wales, Australia which is around 4 hours’ drive from Sydney.

Malua Bay town centre is located astride George Bass Drive, which is approximately 13 kilometres drive from the town of Batemans Bay where we went on holiday a few years ago on the Easter long weekend break.

In Malua Bay, we booked this beautiful 5 bedrooms house and we could view the bay from the balcony.

We left Sydney on Monday morning after the breakfast and our first stop was Kiama.

Kiama is situated 121km south of Sydney and has a population of about 12,000. It was the site of two strong volcanic flows, called the Gerringong Volcanics, which came out of Saddleback Mountain, now a collapsed volcanic vent.

When we arrived at Kiama, it was hard to find parking and very busy as it was a long weekend. We went straight to the “Kiama Blowhole” where the ocean pushes with great force through a fault in the rock and is considered one of Australia’s best known natural phenomena.

We waited to see a few blasts and went up to the light house and took a few photos. By then everyone was hungry so went to a nearby Thai restaurant. The food was good even though we thought the portion could have been better.

From there, our next stop was the beach house. As everyone has similar ideas as our, at times we met holiday traffic but most of the trip was smooth. We reached the house by 6 pm.

By that time, we were all tired so went for a round of tea and some snacks before preparing the dinner.

The kids were having the blast. We had 4 kids in total, two girls including Chhori and two boys who were younger. Chhori loved the company, she gets along well with our friends’ daughter as they are of similar age. She was good with sharing and playing together.

She also loved the little boy (I am not sure if she saw him as toy) and was playing with him. She loved to feed him water from his milk bottle. But she was not very happy when he didn’t take the bottle. It was so nice to see the kids interact.

We had done shopping for grocery from Sydney and had planned well. That night our dinner was everyone’s favourite, momo. As you can probably imagine, get together with Nepali people is not complete without this super yummy dumpling.

As there were so many people, it didn’t take long for the dinner to be ready with everyone helping out and it turned out yum. It was accompanied by tequilas shots, beers and wines. We all sat around until well past midnight talking and having fun.

Next morning, we had breakfast and went to Batesman Bay.

The day was a bit windy but the kids enjoyed the beach and the playground.

We grabbed take away for lunch and went back to the beach house for a relaxed lunch. The fish and chips we bought were really yummy.

For the dinner that night, it was Nepali style fried noodle we call Chowmein and it was delicious. We stayed up until 2 am playing dumb charades, singing and enjoying each other’s company.

On the last day there, we had an early breakfast and headed to Hyams beach.

Hyams Beach is a seaside town on the shores of Jervis Bay, located on the South Coast of New South Wales. It is one of the most beautiful beaches with bluish green water and white sand.

The kids enjoyed the sand play and we loved the amazing view. I really didn’t want to leave the beach but it was time for lunch and the drive back.

On the way back, we grabbed lunch and rested for a while and when we reached home and it was after 8 pm. We were all quite tired so we just went to bed concluding our October long weekend break.

No nappy, pull up please

My little Chhori is growing up so fast.

A while ago we started potty training for Chhori and introduce pull up nappies to make the process easier.

Then we had to delay the training for various reasons. She still goes to pee in a potty sometimes but she only says poo after she pooed in the nappy so we haven’t had much success.

Anyway since that time Chhori says, “No nappy, pull up please. I am a big girl.”

Unfortunately, we bought nappies in bulk and we want to use it up so we are making pull ups with the nappy by pre attaching the ends. We do that so Chhori doesn’t see the whole process.

I and AS were just glad that our little trick was working fine.

One day I saw Chhori playing with one of her nappies.

Me : “Chhori, please don’t play with a nappy. Please give it to me.”

Chhori” “Mama, I make pull up nappy.”

The penny dropped for me just then. She knew all along what we were doing and we thought we were outsmarting her.

When do kids grow to be so smart? Do share your own experience.
