A Visit to Get Shucked on Bruny Island

A visit to Get Shucked on Bruny Island is a must for anyone who loves fresh seafood. Nestled in one of Tasmania’s most scenic spots, this oyster farm and eatery offers some of the freshest seafood you can find, right by the water. On our recent visit, it was the perfect combination of delicious food, beautiful views, and a little island adventure.

When we arrived at Get Shucked, we were greeted by a lively atmosphere. The place was packed, so we had to wait a little for a table. But we weren’t in any rush—the environment was so relaxed and the surrounding views were breathtaking. While we waited, we grabbed some drinks and soaked in the beauty of Bruny Island. The anticipation made the food feel even more exciting.

And once we finally sat down and our food arrived, it was all worth the wait. We opted for baked oysters, a fantastic choice for the start of the day. The oysters were fresh out of the water, and the taste was absolutely incredible. Each bite was smooth, delicate, and perfectly balanced with the rich flavour of melted cheese and seasoning. You could really taste the freshness, as if you were eating directly from the sea. The flavours were so clean and natural, and I could almost taste the salty sea breeze in each bite.

Alongside the oysters, we had a generous serving of crispy chips. These were golden, crunchy on the outside, and soft and fluffy on the inside—absolutely perfect. They paired so well with the oysters, giving a crispy contrast to the tender, briny seafood. It’s the kind of meal that leaves you satisfied and happy, knowing you’ve just enjoyed something truly delicious.

This meal was the ideal way to kickstart our day. Bruny Island is known for its beautiful landscapes and fresh produce, and there’s something incredibly special about enjoying the food right where it’s harvested. The crisp, fresh air and the ocean views made it even more memorable. We took some time to enjoy the surroundings—the clear skies, the peaceful water, and the natural beauty all around us. It’s a place that makes you slow down and appreciate the simple things in life.

If you’re a fan of seafood, especially oysters, Get Shucked is the place to be. Whether you’re a longtime oyster lover or a first-timer, this spot will leave you wanting more. With top-quality seafood, friendly service, and an incredible setting, it’s an experience you won’t forget. Even though we had to wait a little for our table, the food made it all worthwhile. Sometimes the best meals come with a little bit of patience, and this one certainly did.

Next time you find yourself on Bruny Island, be sure to stop by Get Shucked. Grab a drink, enjoy the stunning views, and treat yourself to some of the freshest oysters you’ll ever taste. It’s an experience you don’t want to miss.

Family Stay at DoubleTree by Hilton : Hobart

Our recent family getaway to DoubleTree by Hilton was an absolute delight! From the moment we checked in, the little thoughtful touches made our stay so special. We were welcomed with a bottle of white sparkling wine and their signature warm cookies, which we couldn’t get enough of. We grabbed those cookies daily—they were always fresh, warm, and so satisfying.

The daily breakfast buffet was a highlight for all of us. The variety was incredible—fluffy pancakes, fresh pastries, crispy bacon, made-to-order omelettes, fresh fruits, cereals, and even healthier options like avocado and granola. It felt like starting every morning with a feast, and it was perfect for fuelling our day.

The kids practically lived in the pool, splashing around and having a blast, while we loved unwinding in the sauna. It was the perfect way to relax after a day of exploring. The sauna was clean, spacious, and added such a luxurious feel to our stay.

The location of the hotel was another big win. It’s close to the city, so we could easily walk to dinner each evening, exploring nearby restaurants and enjoying the lively atmosphere. The evening walks became a lovely part of our routine.

Our room was ideal for a family of four—spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped. After full days of fun, the cosy beds ensured a great night’s sleep. The staff were exceptional—always friendly, attentive, and ready to make our stay even better.

This trip was such a wonderful escape for us. It gave us the chance to slow down, connect as a family, and enjoy a mix of fun, relaxation, and delicious food. From the cookies to the breakfast buffet, the pool, sauna, and incredible service, DoubleTree by Hilton really made it feel like a home away from home.

If you’re planning a family getaway, we highly recommend this hotel. We’ll definitely be back to relive these amazing moments!

Anniversary Dinner at Hunter & Barrel – A Night to Remember ❤️🍷

We celebrated our anniversary this year at Hunter & Barrel in Parramatta, and I have to say—it was such a lovely experience from start to finish.

Parking was surprisingly easy, which is always a win in Parramatta! We had a booking, so we were seated straight away. The venue itself has a warm, rustic charm with an inviting ambience, perfect for a special celebration. Our server was welcoming and attentive throughout the meal, which made everything even more enjoyable.

We went with the three-course set menu and started the night with a round of drinks—a cocktail for me and a glass of red wine for hubby.

For starters, we shared:

  • Calamari – Buttermilk and Szechuan marinated, lightly fried, and served with a delicious chilli jam.
  • Crispy Wings – Perfectly cooked and paired with smoky chipotle yoghurt. So flavourful!

For mains, I went for the Lamb Shank, which was beautifully tender, served with horseradish mash, roasted honey carrots, and rich jus. Absolutely melt-in-your-mouth!
Hubby had the Crispy Pork Belly Tacos—crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and packed with flavour. Both mains came with crispy chips.

And of course, no celebration is complete without dessert!

  • I had the Blood Orange & Apple Sorbet, which was light, refreshing, and perfectly balanced with fresh seasonal fruit and passionfruit pulp.
  • Hubby chose the Basque Cheesecake with macerated strawberries, black pepper, basil, and Chantilly cream. It was heavenly!

The sweetest touch? They surprised us with “Happy Anniversary” written on our dessert plate. 🥹💖 Little details like that really make the day feel special.

We absolutely loved the vibe, the service, and every bite of food. Highly recommend Hunter & Barrel for any special occasion—or even just a nice night out.

Here’s to more beautiful moments like this one 🥂

Fit check for a special pasni 💫

All dressed up for my friend’s little one’s rice feeding ceremony (pasni)— one of my favourite traditions to attend. I always love the process of getting ready: from choosing the outfit to putting on makeup and traditional jewellery ✨

Wearing this gorgeous lehenga with a black velvet embroidered blouse, vibrant blue skirt, and a bright orange shawl. Styled it with black jhumkas, a matching maang tika, and gold bangles — feeling festive and fabulous 💛

Loving this whole look and the way it celebrates tradition with a touch of glam!

Exploring Mona Hobart: A Unique Adventure in Tasmania

Our recent trip to Tasmania was an incredible journey filled with stunning landscapes, rich culture, and unforgettable experiences. A standout highlight was our visit to the iconic Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Hobart. Having heard so many glowing reviews, we arrived with high expectations, and MONA delivered a fascinating, one-of-a-kind experience for the whole family—albeit with a few surprises along the way!

From the outside, MONA appears deceptively modest, with its sleek, modern, minimalist façade giving no indication of the vast world hidden beneath. Once inside, we were awestruck by the scale of the underground galleries. Spread across multiple levels, the museum feels like a labyrinth of creativity, with dark, winding pathways leading to a treasure trove of thought-provoking, boundary-pushing art.

The exhibits themselves were a mix of the strange, the beautiful, and the deeply intriguing. One of the standout installations was the “Pulse Room,” a mesmerizing display of hanging light bulbs that pulse in time with the heartbeat of the participants. It was a captivating way to blend art and human connection. Another unforgettable piece was the “Cloaca Professional” (often referred to as the “poo machine”)—a bizarre but oddly fascinating work that mimics the human digestive process. While it’s not for the faint-hearted, it certainly sparked some animated conversations with the kids, who were equal parts amused and bewildered!

The “Waterfall” installation, which displays falling water droplets spelling out words and phrases, was another crowd favourite. It was stunning to watch and left us marveling at the creativity and technology behind it. We also explored the interactive “O” device, which provides in-depth information about each artwork, allowing us to choose whether to dive deeper into the meaning of the pieces or simply appreciate them at face value.

Some exhibits, however, weren’t child-friendly due to mature or confronting themes. As parents, we made sure to guide our kids carefully and chose areas that felt suitable for them. Despite these limitations, MONA did an excellent job of offering an educational experience. Our children were surprisingly engaged, especially with the interactive features and the museum’s clever use of technology, like the augmented reality elements that added layers to the experience.

Once we were ready for a break, the outdoor areas provided the perfect opportunity to unwind. The kids, who had grown a bit restless indoors, were thrilled to discover the giant trampoline outside. They bounced with endless energy under the open sky, surrounded by MONA’s quirky sculptures and serene gardens. The outdoor spaces had a unique vibe, blending relaxation with a sense of playful exploration.

The museum’s practical features also enhanced the visit. Lockers to store our belongings made navigating the galleries much easier, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. However, we did find the food options somewhat underwhelming. While the on-site cafes had a decent selection, we expected something more creative and varied to match the museum’s bold reputation.

Admission was AUD 35 for adults, with free entry for children under 18, which we found to be excellent value considering the scale and uniqueness of the experience.

Overall, MONA was an unforgettable experience that added a distinct and unexpected flavour to our Tasmania trip. The museum’s blend of art, creativity, and innovation made for a truly memorable visit, while the outdoor play areas were a major highlight for the kids. Whether you’re an art enthusiast or just someone looking for a unique adventure, MONA offers something for everyone—so long as you embrace the unexpected.

If you’re planning a trip to Tasmania, MONA should definitely be on your list. Just be prepared to balance the visit between family fun and exploring the art, and you’ll have an amazing time!
