Exploring Mawson’s Hut Replica Museum

During our trip to Hobart, we decided to visit the Mawson’s Hut Replica Museum, a tribute to the legendary Antarctic explorer Sir Douglas Mawson and his team.

The Mawson’s Huts Replica Museum is the world’s only full-scale copy of a building from the heroic era of Antarctic exploration. Situated on the Hobart waterfront, it is rated by Trip Advisor as the No 1 Museum in Hobart.

The Mawson’s Huts Replica Museum in Hobart offers a range of ticket prices to accommodate different visitors. As of January 2025, the entry fees are as follows:

  • Adults (17 years and over): $15
  • Concession (seniors and students): $12
  • Vulnerable adults (with carers admitted free): $8
  • Children (6 to 16 years): $5
  • Children (under 6 years): Free
  • Family Pass (2 adults and up to 3 children aged 6-16): $35

From the moment we stepped inside, it felt like we were transported back to Mawson’s time. The replica of the hut was meticulously detailed, giving us a real sense of what life was like during the Antarctic expedition. As a family of four, we all found something to connect with, from historical displays to hands-on exhibits.

The kids were especially excited about the life-sized husky dog statues, affectionately named Patch and Duchess. They were quick to pose for photos and loved imagining how the real huskies helped the explorers navigate the icy wilderness. The statues sparked so many questions, and it was wonderful to watch their curiosity grow with every new story they learned.

Inside the hut, we got to see how the explorers lived and worked in such extreme conditions. The small bunk beds, the makeshift kitchen, and the limited equipment showed just how resourceful the team had to be. The kids were fascinated and kept asking how they managed to survive without the modern conveniences they’re used to (especially heating and snacks!).

The museum also featured interactive displays, videos, and artifacts that brought the story to life. One section, in particular, showcased the stunning aurora light displays that the explorers would have witnessed in Antarctica. The colourful and ethereal imagery left me in awe, and it’s made me even more determined to see the aurora in real life someday. It’s now firmly on my bucket list!

The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and happy to answer all our questions, making the experience even more engaging.

What stood out to me the most was how much the kids learned during our visit. They were captivated by the stories of survival, teamwork, and exploration. By the time we left, they couldn’t stop talking about Antarctica, the challenges faced by the explorers, and how huskies played such an important role in the expedition.

The Mawson’s Hut Replica Museum may be small, but it’s packed with information and detail. It’s a place where history comes alive, offering visitors of all ages a unique and meaningful experience. If you’re in Hobart and looking for an activity that’s both fun and educational, I highly recommend visiting.

Family Fun at Sea World

Our visit to Sea World was everything we’d hoped for and more—a day filled with laughter, awe, and unforgettable family moments. From thrilling rides to adorable animals, there was something for everyone, and the kids were buzzing with excitement from the moment we walked through the gates.

We kicked off our day at Pirate Ride, and let’s just say it didn’t take long for us to fully embrace the water theme of the park! By the end of the ride, we were absolutely soaking wet, but the laughter and excitement made it all so worth it. It was the perfect way to start the day with a splash—literally!

Next, we headed to the Penguin Show, where we learned so much about these adorable little creatures. Seeing them waddle around and dive gracefully into the water had the kids giggling nonstop. It’s always a treat to watch animals up close, and this was no exception.

The Dolphin Show was an absolute highlight. Watching these intelligent and graceful creatures perform their synchronized jumps and flips left us all in awe. The kids couldn’t stop clapping and cheering, and I loved seeing their eyes light up as the dolphins showed off their incredible skills. It was a wonderful reminder of how amazing marine life is and why we need to protect it.

The Seal Show brought plenty of laughs and excitement. These playful performers had everyone entertained with their tricks and antics. The kids were mesmerised by their energy, and they’re still talking about how clever and funny the seals were.

For our little Paw Patrol fans, the Paw Patrol Show was like stepping into their favourite TV show. Meeting Chase, Marshall, and the gang made their day—they were starstruck! The interactive elements of the show kept them completely engaged, and I have to admit, I enjoyed it just as much as they did.

Of course, Sea World isn’t just about the shows—it’s also home to some amazing rides. The Storm Coaster had my heart racing, and the kids couldn’t get enough of the gentler options like the Sky Climb and Jet Rescue Junior. They were thrilled to be part of the action, and it was great to see their confidence grow as they tried new things.

We also made sure to visit the Polar Bear Shores and the Shark Bay Exhibit, which added a touch of wonder to our day. The polar bears were so majestic, and watching the sharks glide through the water was both thrilling and calming.

By the end of the day, we were tired but so happy. Sea World isn’t just a theme park—it’s a place where you can connect with nature, share joy with your family, and create memories that will last a lifetime. As we headed to the Sea World Resort, the kids were already asking when we could go back, and honestly, I couldn’t blame them. Sea World had captured all our hearts.

A Super Day at Movie World: Heroes, Thrills, and Unforgettable Memories

Our day at Movie World was absolutely magical! From the moment we stepped into the park, it felt like we had entered a world full of adventure, fun, and, of course, our favourite movie characters. The kids couldn’t wait to dive into all the excitement, and their faces lit up with joy as we made our way through the park.

One of the first things we did was catch the 4D Show, and it was nothing short of incredible. The kids were completely immersed in the experience, ducking and dodging along with the action. The special effects were amazing, and we all found ourselves laughing and gasping in surprise at the thrilling moments. It’s one of those experiences that’s even better when shared with your family.

But the real magic happened when we met the characters! My son was beyond excited to meet all the superheroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, and especially Superman. He had been talking about meeting Superman for weeks, and when it finally happened, you could see the sheer joy and awe in his eyes. Superman took the time to chat with him, made him feel like he was the most important person in the world, and even posed for a picture that I know will be one of his most treasured memories. It was such a special moment, and I couldn’t help but get emotional watching my son’s dream come true.

As if that wasn’t enough, the kids got to meet even more of their favourite characters—Duffy the Disney Bear, Tweety, and Sylvester the Cat. Seeing their faces light up when they saw these beloved characters in person was priceless. They couldn’t wait to take pictures and give big hugs, and I couldn’t stop smiling watching their excitement. These moments are the ones they’ll talk about for years to come.

Of course, we didn’t stop there. The Hollywood Stunt Driver Show was action-packed, with incredible stunts that had the kids at the edge of their seats. They were shouting in excitement every time a car flipped or a motorbike raced past us. The Looney Tunes show was another big hit, with all the favourite characters making us laugh and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

We also made sure to ride some of the park’s biggest attractions, like the Green Lantern Coaster and the Scooby-Doo Spooky Coaster. The kids were all about the thrills, and my daughter was so proud of herself for riding the Scooby-Doo coaster for the first time! She couldn’t stop talking about how brave she was afterward.

But beyond the rides and shows, what made this day so special was seeing the excitement in my kids’ eyes. They were absolutely in their element, having fun, laughing, and making memories that will stay with them forever. And as a parent, there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing your child so happy and full of wonder.

A big thank you to Superman for making my son’s dream come true. You made his day—and his year—one to remember forever. I’m so grateful for those special moments that make childhood so magical.

If you haven’t been to Movie World yet, I highly recommend it. It’s more than just a theme park—it’s a place where family bonds are strengthened, dreams are realized, and every moment feels like it’s straight out of a movie.

Have you been to Movie World? What’s your most memorable experience? I’d love to hear your stories! 😊

A Splashtastic Day at Wet’n’Wild with the Kids

We had an absolute blast spending the day at Wet’n’Wild! It was everything we hoped for and more—a perfect day of sun, water, and laughter. The kids were in their element from the moment we arrived, and I couldn’t help but smile at how much they were enjoying every second.

One of the first things we checked out was the kids’ play area, and let me tell you, it was a hit! The little ones could run around, splash in the water, and play on all the cool water features. The slides were perfect for them—nothing too intense, just fun enough to keep them entertained for hours. Watching them race down the slides and then run back up for another go was pure joy. They were laughing so hard, it was contagious, and I found myself joining in the fun, trying to catch them as they splashed past.

Next, we headed over to the Hot Tub, and after a few hours of running around and splashing, it was the perfect place to relax. The warm water was so soothing, and I could tell the kids were loving the break, even if they couldn’t resist playing with the jets and bubbles. It was a peaceful moment in the midst of all the excitement, and I was grateful for the time to unwind while still being close to the action.

Of course, the Wave Pool was one of the highlights of the day. The kids loved the sensation of the waves crashing around them—it was like being at the beach, but with a lot more water fun. They had the best time jumping and riding the waves, and I loved watching them giggle and squeal every time a wave hit them. The joy on their faces as they splashed through the water made me realise just how much they love the water.

We also made sure to check out the bigger slides—The AquaLoop and The Tornado. While the kids were a bit too young for those, they were more than happy to watch me take on the challenge! It was thrilling, to say the least, and the adrenaline rush was so worth it. I think next time, I’ll get them to join me—they’re definitely ready for the adventure.

The day flew by, and before we knew it, it was time to head home. The kids were tired but so happy, and they kept talking about their favourite rides and moments. I loved seeing their excitement, knowing that these are the kinds of memories they’ll cherish for years to come. Wet’n’Wild isn’t just a water park—it’s a place where families can come together, have fun, and create lasting memories.

I’m already looking forward to our next visit. There’s so much to do, and the kids are already asking when we can go back to splash around again!

Our visit to Paradise Country was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this wasn’t just a farm—it was an Aussie adventure packed with excitement, entertainment, and plenty of opportunities for the kids to explore and learn.

The day began with the Shaun the Sheep Aussie Adventure, and the kids couldn’t contain their excitement. Seeing their favourite character come to life was a dream come true! They laughed and cheered as Shaun and his friends brought a playful twist to farm life. The interactive elements kept everyone engaged, and we even got some adorable photos to treasure forever.

Next up was the Stockman Show, a thrilling display of Aussie bush skills. Watching the stockmen handle the cattle with precision and showcasing their horsemanship was awe-inspiring. The kids were wide-eyed as they learned about the life of a stockman and how essential their role is in Australia’s farming heritage.

The Stock Horse Show was another highlight. These incredible animals were the stars of the show, displaying their speed, agility, and intelligence. It was fascinating to see how closely the horses and their handlers worked together. The kids were in awe, and I could see their imaginations running wild with dreams of being horse riders someday!

Of course, no trip to Paradise Country would be complete without the iconic Billy Tea Show. This was such a nostalgic and quintessential Aussie experience. We sipped on warm billy tea and enjoyed freshly baked damper while listening to tales of the outback. The kids loved learning how to swing the billy can, and their laughter filled the air as they gave it a go themselves.

Throughout the day, the kids’ excitement never wavered. Whether they were petting the animals, exploring the farm, or enjoying the shows, there was always something to keep them entertained. It was heartwarming to see them so engaged and eager to learn about Australia’s unique culture and heritage.

Paradise Country is more than just a destination—it’s an experience that brings families together and creates unforgettable memories.
