Hello from Tasmania: Our Summer Holiday Adventure

Our summer holiday this year took us to the charming city of Hobart, Tasmania, and we couldn’t have had a better time! From the moment we boarded our flight, we were filled with excitement, and by the time we landed, Hobart had already started to win us over.

Hobart is such a unique place—nestled between the mountains and the sea, it’s a city that offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, rich history, and vibrant culture. It’s smaller and quieter than some of the major Australian cities, but that’s part of its charm. For our family, it was the perfect spot to unwind and explore together.

We stayed in a lovely Doubletree by Hilton in the city, which gave us easy access to everything Hobart had to offer. The kids absolutely loved it—they could run around freely, and it felt safe and peaceful. The peaceful surroundings gave us the space we needed to recharge, yet we were still close enough to all the action.

As for the food, we were in heaven! Hobart has so many incredible options—whether we were grabbing a quick bite or sitting down for a leisurely meal. We enjoyed everything from fresh seafood a to delicious local treats.

On one of our days, we ventured out to the Mawson’s Hut Replica Museum—a fascinating experience for the whole family. The kids were fascinated by the life-sized husky statues and learning about the Antarctic explorers. We also took a stroll through the beautiful Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, where the kids had a blast running around and exploring the stunning plant displays.

We also visited Bruny Island, a short ferry ride from Hobart, where we enjoyed the incredible views, wildlife, and delicious local cheeses. Another memorable stop was Port Arthur, a historic site with such a powerful story. Walking around the grounds and learning about its history was both educational and thought-provoking for the whole family.

One of the most exciting moments was when we watched the New Year’s Eve fireworks in Hobart. The kids were mesmerised by the dazzling display over the harbour, and it was such a special way to ring in the new year together.

We couldn’t leave Tasmania without exploring Salamanca Market—the vibrant stalls filled with local produce, crafts, and handmade treasures were fantastic. The kids loved browsing through the goodies and picking out a few souvenirs.

Another unforgettable adventure was our visit to the Tall Trees Walk and Russell Cascade waterfall. The towering trees made us feel so small in the best possible way, and the kids had a blast hiking through the forest. The Russell Cascade Waterfall walk, with its lush greenery and stunning views, was a perfect way to connect with nature and unwind.

Another highlight was the breathtaking Mount Wellington. We drove to the summit, and the views were nothing short of spectacular. The kids had fun hiking around, and we enjoyed the panoramic vistas of Hobart, the Derwent River, and the surrounding wilderness.

Throughout our trip, it was the little moments that made it special: watching the kids discover new things, sharing meals at cozy cafés, and taking in the scenery. Hobart may be a small city, but it’s full of charm and adventure, and it’s a place we can’t wait to return to.

Hobart, Tasmania—thank you for the memories! It was the perfect place for our summer holiday, and we can’t wait to see where our next adventure will take us.

The Nepali Peace Pagoda – A Touch of Home in South Bank

Walking through South Bank is always a joy, but discovering the Nepali Peace Pagoda there feels like stumbling upon a piece of my heart. This incredible structure makes me so nostalgic, instantly transporting me back to Nepal and its sacred temples.

Every detail of the pagoda is a masterpiece, steeped in tradition and culture. The amazing door featuring intricately carved statues of gods, the stone stairs at the entrance, and the iconic akhee jhaal (a traditional Nepali window) reflect the extraordinary craftsmanship Nepal is renowned for. The stonework on the ground adds a touch of raw, timeless beauty, grounding the space in authenticity and history.

Inside the main temple structure, a simple yet beautiful wooden bench invites visitors to sit, reflect, and soak in the tranquillity. It’s a space that feels sacred and personal, offering a moment of peace amidst the bustling city. The two smaller temple structures on either side of the pagoda complement the design perfectly, creating a sense of balance and harmony.

The surroundings only enhance the experience. The stupa, standing tall as a symbol of enlightenment, and the gentle water features at the bank provide a calming soundtrack to the serenity of the place. The lush greenery and elephant statues add a vibrant touch, making it feel like a sanctuary dedicated to peace and spirituality.

Standing there, taking in the intricate details and peaceful atmosphere, I couldn’t help but feel an emotional connection. The pagoda isn’t just a structure; it’s a heartfelt tribute to Nepal’s rich heritage and culture. Every element—the carvings, the craftsmanship, and the peaceful energy—reminded me of home and everything I hold dear about it.

If you ever visit South Bank, don’t miss the chance to experience the Nepali Peace Pagoda. Let the beauty, artistry, and serenity of this space take you on a journey of calm, nostalgia, and connection.

Sometimes, a place like this can bridge the distance and bring you closer to home, even when you’re miles away.

A Beautiful Day in Byron Bay

Byron Bay – a place that effortlessly captures your heart with its beauty and charm. Our recent trip to this coastal paradise was nothing short of magical.

From the moment we arrived, we were swept away by the laid-back vibe of the town. The streets buzzed with happy faces, local shops, and cafes filled with the aroma of fresh coffee. It felt like everyone here knew how to pause and embrace the beauty of the moment.

Our main destination was the famous Byron Bay Lighthouse, a landmark that has graced countless postcards. Perched on the easternmost point of mainland Australia, the lighthouse offers panoramic views of the ocean that are nothing short of breathtaking. As we made our way up, we were lucky enough to spot pods of whales swimming gracefully in the deep blue sea. Watching these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat was a moment of pure awe and wonder.

The day couldn’t have been more perfect – sunny skies, a gentle ocean breeze, and a sense of serenity that seemed to envelop the whole place. We spent time soaking in the views, capturing memories with our cameras, and simply appreciating the natural beauty around us.

One of the best things about Byron Bay is how effortlessly it combines nature with a vibrant community vibe. After the lighthouse visit, we strolled through the town, enjoying everything from street performers to delicious food. There’s something special about this place – a harmony that makes you want to stay forever.

Byron Bay is more than just a destination; it’s an experience. It’s a reminder to slow down, breathe deeply, and embrace the beauty of life. We left feeling refreshed, inspired, and already planning our next trip back.
