Sometimes it is easy to ignore what you have and to appreciate how good you have it. That is the case for me when I sometimes forget that I live in one of the best countries in the world in terms of economy and safety. We also have many nice people around us. From time to time things happen that reminds me the very thing.
Last week AS forgot his bag on a bus coming back from work. He didn’t realise that it was missing until he was almost home. He was reading on his tablet when this happened so it took a while to realise.
Anyway he came home and told me. We went through what he had in his bag: work pass (important), lunch boxes, sunniness and some odds and ends. Basically everything in the bag was easily replaceable but still because it was his bag, he felt a bit bad. We googled and found the lost and found number for the bus company but unfortunately it was closed for the day.
The next day, AS called the number and reported that he had forgotten the bag in the bus. The woman on the other side took his details and promised to call back if anything turned up. Lucky for us, she called him a few hours later and told him that they have the bag in the depot.
How great is that? We had almost given up hope because it is a normal bag with ordinary items which anyone could have picked up and taken with them. So AS went to pick up the back this morning and everything was there. This definitely made us appreciated that people are pretty honest and do not to take others’ belongings.
In a a similar incident a few years ago my brother left his phone on the train while on the way to work. He didn’t realise that it was missing for a while. In the mean time, I got a call at home from his number. The person told me that they had found the phone on the train and dialled the number called home to see if they could return it.
I told her it was my brother’s phone and he will come and pick it up as soon as possible. She left her mobile number in case my brother’s phone died. The next day, my brother picked the phone up and thanked the kind woman. Incidents like this make you believe in good Samaritans and good deeds.
Do share if you have similar incidents?
Take care everyone ,

You know this reminded me of an incident where my husband lost his gold finger ring, this is a rather heavy one and was a bit expensive too. He lost it at a cafe and went back after 48 hours, the owner had safely kept it and gave it to my husband. Incidents like these restore our faith in humanity.
Great to know, he didn’t lose it. So true there are still so many nice people around to restore our faith in humanity 🙂
Afternoon M, I so love these kind of stories as it brings faith back to man kind. 🙂
My Aunty lost her purse many years ago and only realized when she reached the shops. She looked everywhere and retraced her steps but still couldn’t find it. She broke down crying as she had $10,000 in it which she was about to exchange for U.S dollars. This was about 20 years ago and that was a great deal of money back then. She was taking her family to the U.S on holiday. That night a man knocked at her door and said he had found her purse out the front of his driveway. She asked where he lived and he told her at the end of her street. Then Like a light bulb moment she remembered she put the purse on the roof of her car and then went back to lock the house. Clearly she had then gotten into her car and forgotten about it. Nothing had been touched and he apologizes for going into her purse but it’s the only way he could find out who it belonged to. She couldn’t believe he would say sorry when he could have kept it all and she would have been none the wiser. To this day I still can’t believe he was that honest. He refused any kind of reward. I think she was very lucky as it could have been someone completely different and with no morals.
Hugs Paula xxxx
So many nice people around top keep believing in each other and humanity. Hope to see you soon , take care.
I am thankful that there are still good people around, such Good Samaritans you listed. Glad they helped your husband and your brother, to get by (your brother) and give back (lost and found person at the bus station). We need more of this, I think going around. I always like the idea of karma, what you do you will get back, just in a different way. I don’t remember a good story, except once I left a purse in a theater, the next movie had already started, but was able to quietly ask a person to reach under their chair, and they gave me back the purse! Smiles, Robin
Indeed there are so many good peoople around us to remind us that not everything in this world is getting bad 🙂
It reminded me of something. We were in Kaghbeni of Mustang for some research and fun. The nature was simply stunning we were so captivated and it was great fun. While returning we had to change couple of buses and during our change we missed the Anemometer box worth £ 200,00. We Nepali student how can we pay so much to the department, We dialled the number written in the ticket. It did not worked. Then we contacted the buspark, they simply said don’t know the details but we will inform you if there is any. Later the phone said the bus is gone somwhere and we could not establish connection with him coz he was in that route recently and not the permanent bus of that route. Then we dialled Beni police; it worked in different way. It created confusion between the drivers and police and misunderstandings. It was almost conformed that the box is in the bus of that area because it seems something to them and the drivers were not wanting to involve police in this case but we had no idea and we could not think the other way. Then we dialed the senior police who was relative of our friend. He came in the filed; may be driver had wanted some financial-services or may be more lingering but finally the driver gave the box to him.
i dont know how did it worked there, how he managed the scenario; one of us was ready to go there to take the Anemometer box once it is conformed with whom and where is it; but he sent it to our department; within three days. I still like to thank him.
You are so lucky to get the equipment back eventually especially in Nepal where tracking a bus is not a easy job and without proper technology it is near impossible. Glad with the outcome 🙂
Its a country where power and strong network works and same happened with my case 🙂
So true, take care..
It’s so nice to find things that you’ve lost..it’s not the material things but the emotional connections with those things..
my friend had her wallet returned by a police once.
I’ve returned someone wallet at their home address too..
Once we found a wallet with large amount of cash..I’m so proud that we took it to police station and handed it over with all the contents ☺️
I know exactly what you mean, even u lose a earring , you miss it because you have a emotional connection with it. You guys are such a good people not to be deterred by the huge amount of money, well done.
