In every person a child is hidden that wants to play!!!

Yesterday we were invited to my cousin’s (K’s) place for dinner along with some other friends. One of the friends got my nephew an Angry Bird Game and we bought him some play dough.

Angry Bird

Once we were settled, the boys helped my nephew to open his gifts. My nephew loves to play Angry Bird on mobile phones so one of my friends opened the game to show the little guy how to play the real game But I think he enjoyed it  so much while giving the demo, that he kept on playing. Then it was AS and my brother who joined him and I followed. 🙂

It was really fun. I guess we were having more fun than my little nephew. I think he got bored quickly after we finished our game and he started making a train with the birds and piggies soon after.

That was just the beginning of our “Play kid” day. I thought I will show my nephew some play dough trick as he watches “Mr. Maker” all the time. But at the end of the night, it was us who had more fun with the dough than the kid. My friend taught me how to make an elephant, and I made the head of dinosaurs, and some Angry Birds. My friends were also making ice cream, flower, flag, and anything they could think of.

I guess we are never too old to play Angry Bird and Play dough. There is still a child in every person that wants to play.

Waiting for the perfect phone…

Looks like I have been waiting for the perfect phone forever. I was a happy customer of O2 XDA Nova a while back. I liked the fact that it was a touch screen (not many phones were touch screens then) and I could forward my email to my phone. Then its OS started to crash so often that I had to change to a different phone.

As I had to get something quickly, I went for Samsung f480 just because it was a touch screen and I liked the compact sized. But I didn’t like it after a few days as it has phone keypads rather than computer-like Qwerty keyboard. Which meant that I had to touch the screen 3 times just to write a “C”. But as I had already spent my money on it, I was stuck with it.

Luckily or unluckily, I lost that phone in six months and I needed new phone again. This time I wanted the iphone 3G but while I was doing my research I found out that it had lots of problems. I talked to a few people who had iphones of their own and they were not very happy with its battery life. So I decided to go for a Blackberry Curve.

In few months after I got my phone, they launched iphone 4. I was very pissed as I wanted that now but I was not prepared to buy another phone so soon.

Now my blackberry is dying slowly. It throws error messages from time to time and so I need a new phone again soon. So I was very happy when I found out that Apple was going to launch a new iphone and I hoped it was the much talked  about iphone 5 but I was disappointed again when they launch the iphone 4S.

Now I am in a big dilemma, should I go for new phone now or wait for a while. I don’t want to miss out on the iphone 5 if it comes in the next few months.

My husband has Samsung Galaxy S2 and he seems to be very happy with that.

I am soooooooooooooo confused. Looks like I always end up buying a new phone at the wrong time .

Happy “Dashami”

The tenth day of Dashain is called  ‘Dashami’. On this day we take Tika and Jamara from our elders and receive their blessing.  The red Tika also symbolizes the blood that ties the family together. Elders will give “Dakshina”, or a small amount of money, to younger relatives at this time.

This year Tika was on Thursday so after work, I performed Puja at home. Then we went to my cousin K’s place for tika. We had a Nepali bhoj and lots of fun.

Here are some pics from the day.

Story of my Jamara….

As I have mentioned on my previous post (Dashain Aayo), I tried growing Jamara this year and I am happy to let you know that, it came out well

If anyone wants to try it for the next year, this is what I did.

  1. Soak barley seeds over night. I used a Jamara mix (barley, corn, wheat) from Nepali grocery shop.
  2. Get a deep bowl or container with a flat bottom. Fill it with a layer of sand about one or two inches thick.
  3. Sprinkle a layer of soaked Jamara mix into the container. Make sure it is only one layer of the seeds so they have enough room to sprout.
  4.  Cover the seeds with thin layer of sand.
  5.  Sprinkle some water in the container. The sand should be moist , not be soggy.
  6. Cover the container and put it in a dark place away from sun.
  7. Check the container daily to make sure that the sand is moist.
  8. Hurray, Jamara is ready for Tika.

I’ll try with just barley next year as I think that would be even better.

Happy Dashain !!!

Happy “Nawami”

On the ninth day of Dashain which is called ‘Nawami’ or “Maha-Navami” , we worship Vishwakarma, the god of creativeness. All artisans, craftsmen, tradesmen worship their tools, equipment and vehicles like cars, bikes, trucks etc. for protection against accidents during the year. So we got into the spirit of Dashain today and we worshipped our Car with a Puja.

Normally animals are sacrificed during the Puja and the tools are given their fill of blood but we used a hard shelled coconut instead and let the car have the coconut water!
