Suprise win

My workplace always has something going on all the time like Footy tipping competition, trivia and other fun stuffs. Normally I don’t participate because I think I don’t have enough knowledge or I am too busy at work.

But a few weeks ago when they sent about Trivia for NAIDOC (National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee) Week, I decided to play as well.

They sent out 5 sets of Trivia for 5 days. Some of them were easy and others were easy to find using Google but there were questions which I could not find anywhere.

Anyway, I did the trivia to the best of my knowledge though it was definitely not easy but I was glad to have done it as I learn so much during the process.

Anyway, the result for the competition was announced and surprise, surprise, I won second prize. It would have been amazing to win the first prize but still, coming in second was awesome. I wasn’t expecting to win but when I did, it made me feel very happy.

Here is what I won. A goodie bag full of aboriginal stuff including a big towel, book marker, key chain, a small bag full of stationery, mug, keep cup and many more other stuffs.

So from now on I am going to participate in as many competition as possible 🙂

Have you won some completion unexpectedly, do share your story here.

Take care,

City2Surf 2016

Hello everyone, I am back. It has been a crazy few weeks for me. The holiday to New Zealand was amazing and we had fun. I will post more details on it soon.

Queenstown (4)

Since being back, we ran the City2Surf and I am glad it is over now. As you may have known, before Chhori, AS and I used to run the 14km every year and it was one of our default routines.

But for the last two years, we didn’t sign up for it as the first year, I was pregnant and the year after Chhori was too small.

This year we decided it was time to get back to running again. Having my parents here has allowed us to leave Chhori with them. Our aim this year was to do better than previous years and we were mentally ready.

During training, AS was very motivated and pushing himself very hard. Unfortunately, he hurt his knee during the process and had to take some medication so AS was not sure at all if he could run or not. On the other hand, I was determined to run.

I was training well in the beginning but it went pear shaped a few weeks before due to the rainy weather and the holiday to New Zealand.

To cut a long story short, on the race day AS was okay to run and we did a run and walk so the we don’t hurt his knee.

I am so glad we did it as it was a beautiful day with thousands of fellow runners. The atmosphere was just beautiful and we had fun all along. Also while we walked we had our Pokémon Go app on so we managed to catch a few Pokémon too :).

We didn’t better our timing from previous years but were very close so I am happy with the outcome.

city2surf (2)

I hope to do better next year. I am also looking forward to Chhori growing up so she will go with us as well.

Spring is almost here for us so I am very excited and looking forward to beautify Sydney days.

How have you all been?

Take care everyone.

Chhori’s first overseas trip

We are off to Auckland, New Zealand tomorrow and I am really excited for Chhori as it is her first overseas trip. I know it is not very far away but 3 hours flight to another country where you need a passport to enter will be another milestone to celebrate for Chhori.

Auckland, New Zealand

Auckland, New Zealand

We are going with my parents and it will be their first time to New Zealand as well. Me and AS are going to be the guides for this trip as we have been to NZ multiple times.

Queenstown (5)

We (AS and I) love New Zealand as it reminds us so much of Nepal and it is definitely one of our favourite destinations. If you remember, we went to New Zealand on my babymoon too so technically Chhori has been there when she was still in my tummy 🙂

arrowtown (5)

For last few days Chhori has flu and mild fever but it seems to be getting better. I hope she will be 100% when we head to the airport tomorrow.

chhori (5)

We have done most of the packing and are eagerly waiting for our adventures.

We will be there for a week and have planned most of the days on what to do and where to go.

I will definitely blog about the trip once we are back.

Till I see you again, have a great day and see you soon.

Simple Sponge cake with strawberry jam and cream

A few weeks ago, one my colleagues had his birthday and instead of a fancy store bought cake, he requested that he would like a simple sponge cake with strawberry jam and cream.

So we decided that we would make one for him. I was surprised at how good it turned out so I did it again and it is so easy.

Ingredients

  • 2 sponge cakes (I bought readymade ones, you could make your own)
  • 300ml thickened cream
  • Icing sugar, for dusting
  • 250g strawberry jam

Method

  • Beat cream using an electric mixer for 8 to 10 minutes or until thick and creamy. If you like extra sweet, add icing sugar.

  • Place 1 sponge cake on a plate and top it with jam and then the cream. Then put the remaining sponge on top.

  • I made two different versions depending on the topping on the sponge cake on the top.

Simple Sponge cake with strawberry jam and cream (5)

  • One I dusted with icing sugar on the top while on the second one I spread with jam and cream and added cherry as topping.

  • Both the cakes turned out to be quite yummy and I loved it.

Enjoy.

Am I allowed to be annoyed?

I have been on a mission for the last few months cleaning out our wardrobes every weekend. I am getting rid of anything that I can’t wear or haven’t worn for a while. Same with AS and Chhori’s clothes too. That means heaps and heaps of clothes and shoes are going out. I have a few pieces that have I emotional attachment to but I figure there is no point keeping things just for their sentimental value.

my walkin wardrobe

I used to take all of my clothes to charity but I read that most of the donated clothes end up in a bin.  So I decided to donate in a different way. I have been putting them on Gumtree (similar to Craig list) for free, a bag at a time.

I am always happy when someone responds because sometimes I wonder who will take them. So far I have had a great experience giving as people message me and we organise a time and they come and pick up the bags from my place. I have given away heaps of shoes and dresses. I have also given away carpets and kitchen stuffs.

Anyway, it was going so well until recently. I had a few people who wanted the stuff and some even telling me their sad story. Anyway, we arranged a time for pick up but just before the appointed time, they texted me that they are not able to pick up the clothes for some reason. I can understand things change so I agreed for another time. But the thing is after many rearrangements, they don’t message anything and didn’t show up at the agreed time. To make matters worst, they don’t respond to my messages.

I sometimes wonder why anyone would stand somebody up who is giving them something for free. If you don’t need it or change your mind, at least have the courtesy to message and let them know. I had this experience from three different individuals recently which has put me off a little about the whole process. Sometime it makes me a little annoyed as well. Am I allowed to be annoyed or am I over reacting?

Anyway if they fail to respond me, I am giving it to the next person in line and I am happy to see so many of them messaging me. It is just annoying that someone will waste my time like this.

Have your experienced something similar? Do share your experience and in the meantime I will keep cleaning out my wardrobes because it is such a relaxing process to see some free space in my wardrobe. It is a bonus to know that the clothes I didn’t want have been put to good use by someone. Do try doing Spring/winter/summer/autumn cleaning and experience the amazing feeling 🙂

Take care,
