Is it OK for adults to wear children’s clothes?

I am sure I am not alone in the boat where you admire kids’ clothes and you want to wear them.

When I first came to Australia, I was really skinny so when shopping adult clothes, they didn’t fit me. It was a really disappointing experience but then went to the kids cloth store and bought dresses in large sizes. Believe me if I don’t tell anyone about it, no one will know that it is kids’ clothes.

Mind you, if you go to the larger sizes for kids, they are the same size as small in adult clothing which is what I wear so I see no problem. Not all the styles are adult appropriate but there are heaps you could get away with.

These days, Sydney has got lots of brands and they make size 6 clothes for most brands which fits me and I am very happy about it.

Anyway, after coming back to work from maternity leave, I felt like I needed to buy a few dresses so I started to look around. Funnily enough I found a few girls’ dresses so pretty and they were perfect as work cloth. I tried a few of them and I couldn’t let go so I bought them. I haven’t worn them to work yet but I am planning to. I guess I should keep my mouth shut and not tell anyone that they are kids’ clothing but I think it should be acceptable to wear them as long as it look good on me .

The dresses are high neck and knee length which is perfect for work. I prefer the colours and these materials are nice too.

I am thinking, in a few years Chhori and I can go shopping to the same store, won’t it be cool! :).

What do you think about it? Have you ever worn children’s clothes? Should I keep my mouth shut? 🙂

Take care everyone,

  1. In america Most of the kid clothes are cut small. a person that is under 120 pounds 5″3 and on the slimmer side can wear kids clothes. Its usually a shock if you wear kids clothes by the time u are 14. Im 17 I wear children clothes because it fits me betterbetter at 115 and 5”3,isnt as provocative and is way cheaper. i think its okay to wear it but it depends on the style because some clothing can look really childish. I mainly wear boys clothing anyway so i dont run into that problem problem much. The children clothing Has Better qualityquality sometimes.

  2. I think it’s normal for smaller/shorter women to shop at larger kids’ section 🙂 My flatmate does it too.. I don’t remember shopping in kids section specifically..but I surely would if I didn’t find anything in women’s section. The fashion in Europe for children/young teens is also so much adult-like that adults wearing children’s sizing is hardly noticeable 🙂 Plus the kids here are bigger and taller, so it can sometimes be great for small women like me. Those outfits suit you!

  3. I have worn small tops in adult sizes but I have enjoyed the lower prices and pretty colors of young people’s clothing lines. I think people should wear what they like, as long as respectable. You are a beautiful and classy young woman who I would trust to make tasteful choices! Hugs, Robin

  4. “im a little girl” :v it’s very difficult for me to choose the clothes fit me 😥

  5. I did many a times.. they fit me so well. And i have no problem in sharing the information if asked.
Between, You look great in them and that is what it matters isn’t?

  6. No, I haven’t. Almost all clothes stores here in the US sell dresses of all sizes. Petit, regular etc I never had a problem. No problem either with pants sizes.
