Victor Harbor was definitely one of the highlights of our Adelaide trip. It was one of those days where we managed to fit in so many different experiences — beautiful coastal views, a historic train ride, the famous horse-drawn tram, Granite Island, lots of walking and, of course, a lovely lunch along the way. ❤️
One of the things we were really excited about was getting on the old heritage train from Victor Harbor. I’ve always loved experiences like this when travelling because they make you slow down and actually enjoy the journey rather than just thinking about getting to the next destination.
We climbed aboard the old-fashioned train and settled into the carriage, and the ride itself was such a lovely experience. 🚂
The train took us through the beautiful coastal scenery between Victor Harbor and Goolwa. Sitting inside the heritage carriage, looking out the windows at the changing views, was so relaxing. There was something really nostalgic about travelling on an old train, listening to the sounds of the carriage and watching the scenery pass by.
The kids enjoyed the whole experience too. For them, it wasn’t just another way of getting somewhere — the old train itself was an adventure! 😄
And the scenery made it even more special. We got beautiful views of the coastline, countryside and surrounding landscapes along the way. Sometimes it’s easy to forget how much you can see when you’re travelling by car, but being on the train gave us the chance to sit back, look outside and enjoy everything around us.
After our train adventure, we continued exploring Victor Harbor.
Another highlight was the famous horse-drawn tram to Granite Island. 🐴🚋 I had seen pictures of it before, but actually sitting in the old tram carriage while the beautiful Clydesdale horses pulled us across the causeway was such a memorable experience.
The tramway has a long history dating back to 1894, and travelling across the water towards Granite Island in that old-style carriage really did feel like stepping back in time.
Once we reached Granite Island, we spent time walking around and exploring. The giant granite rocks, ocean views and fresh sea air were beautiful. The kids loved wandering around and discovering different spots, while we took our time enjoying the scenery and taking photos.
There were so many little moments throughout the day that made me happy — watching the kids get excited about the horses, sitting together on the train, enjoying the ocean views and simply having time together as a family.
By the time we were ready for lunch, we had definitely worked up an appetite! 😋 We stopped for lunch in Victor Harbor and enjoyed some good food before continuing to explore the area.
What I really loved about Victor Harbor was that it wasn’t just about one attraction. The heritage train ride, horse-drawn tram, Granite Island, coastal walks, beautiful views and relaxed seaside atmosphere all came together to make it such a fun day.
The old train ride was probably one of those simple experiences that I appreciated more than I expected. There was no rushing — just sitting back, looking out at the scenery and enjoying the journey.
Sometimes the journey really is just as memorable as the destination. ❤️
Victor Harbor gave us one of those beautiful family days filled with little adventures, fresh air, history, good food and lots of memories. Definitely a place I’d love to visit again! 🌊✨
