For Nepalis around the world, Dashain is much more than a festival. It is a time of family, faith, gratitude, renewal and togetherness. As the biggest and most cherished festival in Nepal, Dashain celebrates the victory of good over evil and reminds us of the importance of kindness, humility and respect for our elders, family and community.
Growing up, Dashain always meant returning home, spending time with family, receiving blessings from our elders, flying kites, enjoying festive meals and reconnecting with people we may not have seen for months. No matter where life takes us, Dashain has a special way of bringing us back to our roots and reminding us of what truly matters.
πβ€οΈ Today is Maha Navami, the ninth day of Dashain, a special day of worship, gratitude and blessings. πΊβ¨
Before heading off to work this morning, I made sure to do my car puja, praying for safety on the road, protection for my loved ones and safe journeys wherever life takes us. ππ
It is a simple tradition, but one that means a lot to me. In the rush of everyday life, taking a few moments to pause, reflect and give thanks is incredibly grounding. Standing beside my car this morning, offering prayers and seeking blessings, reminded me how fortunate I am for my family, my friends, good health, meaningful work and the opportunities life continues to bring.
Living away from Nepal can make it difficult to celebrate every tradition exactly as we did back home, but carrying these customs forward helps keep our culture alive and connected across generations. It is a beautiful reminder that our traditions travel with us wherever we go.
As Dashain continues, I am especially grateful for the support, encouragement and friendships of the amazing people around me. Festivals like this remind us to celebrate not only our successes, but also the relationships and communities that make those successes meaningful.
Wishing everyone celebrating Dashain a joyful and blessed Maha Navami filled with happiness, good health, peace, prosperity and countless moments with loved ones. May Goddess Durga bless you and your family with strength, protection and positivity in the year ahead. πͺπΈ
Happy Dashain! β€οΈπ
