Exploring Hahndorf with the Family

🌿✨ Exploring Hahndorf with the family was such a beautiful part of our South Australia trip!

I had visited Hahndorf about 10 years ago, so coming back after all these years β€” but this time with hubby and the kids β€” felt really special. Some places just bring back memories, and walking through Hahndorf again made me think about how much life has changed since my last visit. ❀️

Hahndorf has such a unique charm. The moment you arrive, you can feel that old-world German influence in the beautiful heritage buildings, little shops, cafΓ©s and streets lined with greenery. It feels completely different from the busy city, and I loved slowing down and just wandering around with the family.

We spent the day exploring the main street, popping into different shops and checking out all the interesting little things along the way. The kids enjoyed looking at the sweets, souvenirs and quirky displays, while hubby and I were happy taking our time, enjoying the atmosphere and, of course, stopping for plenty of photos! πŸ“ΈπŸ˜„

And then came the food! πŸ˜‹

You can’t really visit Hahndorf without trying the famous German food, so we had to stop for a traditional hot dog for lunch. 🌭 It was exactly the kind of hearty, satisfying food we needed after walking around and exploring. The kids were very happy with their lunch too!

One thing I really enjoyed about Hahndorf was how easy it was to explore as a family. We weren’t rushing from one attraction to another. We could simply walk, browse, eat, stop for photos and enjoy whatever caught our attention.

We also loved seeing the old-fashioned touches around the village. Hahndorf was settled by German Lutherans in 1839 and is Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement, which is a big part of what gives the town its distinctive character. You can really see that history reflected in the architecture, food and atmosphere. πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ

The kids were fascinated by the heritage feel of the place, especially because it was so different from what they usually see around Sydney. It was a nice little history lesson without feeling like a lesson at all.

For me, though, the best part was simply being back.

Ten years ago, I was exploring Hahndorf with a completely different chapter of my life. This time I was walking those same streets with my own family, watching my kids discover the place for the first time. That’s one of the things I love most about travelling β€” returning somewhere you’ve been before and seeing it through completely different eyes.

South Australia gave us so many wonderful family experiences, but Hahndorf was definitely one of those places where we could slow down and enjoy the moment.

Good food, beautiful scenery, history, little shops, family laughs and lots of memories β€” what more could you ask for? ❀️

Sometimes the best travel memories aren’t about ticking off a long list of attractions. They’re about wandering around together, sharing food, laughing at silly things, taking way too many photos and simply enjoying being a family.

So happy I got to come back to Hahndorf after 10 years β€” and even happier that this time I got to experience it with my favourite people. πŸ₯°πŸŒΏ
