Vivid 2016 and Smashed iphone6

Last week, we went to watch Vivid like every year. It is one of the best shows Sydney puts on apart from the New Year fireworks. I loved Vivid this year as there was line-up of amazing lights in even more places.

My favourite was the animated canvas on Opera house inspired by Aboriginal arts. It was so nice that we stayed in front of it for a long time, admiring the view and taking some great photos.

Another one of my favourites was the Sydney’s Hidden Stories projection onto the Custom’s House. It was full of great characters like the lizard, snakes, cockatoos, gnomes and gumnut fairies and even a witch. Even though it was a cold evening, we loved the night out and Chhori was happy to run around.

On the way back to the train station, we found a phone on the middle of the road. It was an iphone6 and a car must have run over it. The screen was all smashed and we could not see anything.

The phone had a cover which had a student card with name and a photo. The first thing I could think of was to search for her name on Facebook just in case we could find her. We found a Facebook page with the same name but we were not sure if that was the same girl as the photo seemed a little different.

In that mean time, the phone started ringing but we couldn’t pick it as the screen was smashed and was not sensitive to touch. So I decided to leave a message on her Facebook just in case it was the same person.

The phone kept ringing and eventually died.

The next morning, I checked my Facebook for a response but there was none so I decided to call the university. Luckily when I talked to the lady there, there was only one student with that name. So I left a message for her to call me back and let her know that the phone is with me.

That afternoon she called me and was happy to know that I had her phone. Unfortunately I had to inform her that the phone was smashed and unusable. We arranged for her to pick the phone up from my friend’s office as that was closer to her.

The next day, she picked up the phone and I was happy that the phone was reunited with the owner even though it was battered. It is a good feeling when you know that you did the right thing. 🙂

And it was really nice of her to send me a pack of nice chocolates as a “Thank you.”

Do you have a similar story where someone has returned your lost item or you found the owner for a lost item that you found? Please do share.

Have a great day.

Take care,

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea 2016

Like every year, my work place hosted Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea for Cancer Council Australia and I was in charge of the decoration.

This charity is close to my heart as so many people around me are diagnosed with this terrible disease. I am glad I could contribute to the great cause.

As it would be silly to waste money on decorations every year, we decided to reuse the decoration and here are some photos from the day with the decoration and contribution of mouth-watering foods.

I am always amazed by the different types of food people bring and it is good to know that we have raised money for a good cause.

Does your work place host something similar? Please share some ideas for decorations and making the event more fun and I will use them next year.

Take care everyone.

Chhori flying for the first time

I can’t believe that Chhori is over 14 months old and is a toddler now, not an infant anymore.

chhori

It feels like just a few months ago that I was pregnant but time has just gone so quickly. I guess this is how we get old and we don’t even realise it.

As I mentioned before, my in laws are here and we are taking them on an interstate holiday. That means Chhori will be flying on a plane for the first time tomorrow.

We went on our first holiday with Chhori to Dubbo but we drove. She was OK overall and we were relieved that she didn’t get sick. Tomorrow, she will experience flying for the first time. Luckily for us the flight is just over an hour but still I am excited and anxious at the same time.

I have done some research and will be equipped with entertainment and food for her but I am still a bit worried that it will be hard for her to sit in the same place for a long time. She loves to walk as she has recently discovered the freedom of walking so let’s see how she will cope. I hope we won’t annoy anyone with her moving too much and hope no tears at all.

We are going to the Gold Coast and I am looking forward to the holiday. It would be mine third visit, AS second and Chhori’s and my in laws first. The weather looks good and hope things works out as we have planned. We plan to visit Warner Bros. Movie World, Sea World and Wet n’ Wild. Also we will be doing some sightseeing and shopping.

Chhori is a bit sniffly at the moment and wakes up multiple times at night so I have to nurse her back to sleep. Hope the warm weather will make her feel better.

Will update about our holiday when we get back.

Please share some any tricks you use while flying with young children. Also share funny story you have flying with young ones.

Have a great weekend!

First day @ swim school

Australia has a lot of beaches everywhere so swimming is a necessary skill here. We wanted Chhori to learn to swim from an early age so we have taken her to a swimming pool before but we just let her relax in her floater while we swim.

chhori (2)

Recently we had been looking for a swimming school for her and finally we enrolled Chhori into a swim school. It was so hard to find a spot in a school which operates classes on weekends for kids less than 2 years but finally found a place available in one.

Last week was her first class and I was not sure what to expect, the class is 30 minutes long. One of the parents needs to go into the water with the baby and hubby volunteered me to do that. I am happy to be part of it as I want to learn how to teach her to swim when we are not in the class.

chhori (1)

It is going to be our weekly activity now and I am excited to see how Chhori will be at the end of it.

There were 7 another babies in the class with Chhori and each had a parent with them.

chhori (4)

The class started with some introduction and it was followed by splashes and paddles. We went through a few songs like humpty dumpty and wheel on the bus and did the actions. We did the same songs a few times so the babies get used to it. We also showed the babies how to blow bubbles and then had a few water toys which they were encouraged to grab. Chhori was having fun with each activity.

chhori (2)

30 minutes passed too fast and the class was over. Chhori had great fun and was still excited so we stayed in the pool for another 15 minutes or so playing and repeating what the instructor had shown during the class.

chhori (3)

I am looking forward to more classes and I am super happy that Chhori is enjoying the class and learning at the same time.

Please share your swim school experience. Also please share tips on how I can help Chhori to learn swimming better.

Take care,
