Mouse in your tummy

The other day when I picked Chhori from Daycare and told her that I am really hungry. We need to go and make something to eat.

Chhori: “You got mouse in your tummy?”

Me: “No, I am just hungry. Let’s go home and make dinner together.”

Chhori: “No mama, you have mouse in your tummy.”

She kept insisting that I have mouse in my tummy no matter what I said so I accepted it.

AS came home after work and I told him about my conversation with Chhori.

He started laughing really hard and when I asked him why, he said it was because he was teaching Chhori that.

In Nepali, if you are really hungry you say, “I am so hungry that I feel like I have mouse running in my tummy.” This refers to the stomach rumbling when we are hungry.

So, AS had been talking about that to Chhori when explaining hunger and that’s the reason she was so adamant that I had mouse in my tummy 🙂

It is so amazing that kids pick stuff up so quickly and my Chhori is growing up so fast for sure.

 Potty training fun

Finally Chhori is potty trained and I am very happy.

When I was researching potty training, I read that you need at least 3-5 days straight at home to train a child successfully.

It was really hard to get that time so when I took 4 weeks off work during Christmas and New Year,potty training was on top of our list.

Before the actual training, we read lots of articles and watched so many videos on YouTube. From all the different techniques that we found I choose the one to reward her with stickers when she sat on the potty.

Most of the videos make it look so easy and said that it can be done in 3 days but it took us nearly 7 days for Chhori to do both pee and wee in the potty.

First day of potty training was fun, trying to put her on the potty every 10 minutes. Both me and Chhori were excited and she did all her wees there but had 2 poo accidents on her training undies.  On the first night she actually woke up in the middle of the night saying she needed to pee. We were very impressed and thought it was going great.

On the second day, she refused to go to the potty every 10 minutes so we did it every 30 minutes. With best effort on both our side she still had 2 wee accidents and didn’t do a poo for the whole day.

On day 3, she had 2 pee accidents and 1 poo. That day I was really up set because it felt like we were going one step forward and two steps backward. She went and sat on potty many times but still managed to have accidents.

By day 4, Chhori was an expert in going to the toilet on her own and surprisingly did her first poo in the potty. She was very excited and so was I. I rewarded her with two stickers that day and she was super happy.

Day 5 was better with no accidents at all but later we still had accidents now and then especially if she hold her wee too long and has to go in a rush .

But we are happy now that she is getting better and having fewer accidents.

The most important things to remember when you potty training 

  • Be patient
  • Don’t be angry when they have accidents
  • Have a week free from other thing so you can concentrate on the training
  • They will eventually be nappy free, always keep that in mind
  • If you think your child is not ready do not push them
  • Every child is different so one rule doesn’t apply to all

Australia Day long weekend at Entrance

It was Australia Day on 26 January so we went away for a long weekend away.

Australia Day is the official National Day of Australia. Celebrated annually on 26 January, it marks the anniversary of the 1788 arrival of the First Fleet of British Ships at Port Jackson, New South Wales, and the raising of the Flag of Great Britain at Sydney Cove by Governor Arthur Phillip.

For this Australia Day we went to the central coast of Australia to a beautiful costal town named The Entrance. We had booked a holiday home with a pool as it is really hot these days in Sydney.

Altogether we had four families with 7 kids and we had a great time.

The first day we went to The Entrance town center had lunch and watched pelican being fed and stayed to let the kids play in the play area for a while.

From there we went to the holiday home in the evening and went straight to the pool which was so refreshing and kids love water too.

We spent a few hours swimming, playing water volley ball, chatting and drinking beer in the pool. Then it was dinner time so we cooked momo, had few drinks and played dumb charade. It has become our favorite game lately.

We stayed till late singing and dancing and finally decided to call it an night.

The next morning, we all woke up leisurely and decided that we would stay in for the day.

We had breakfast and went for a swim. It was a beautiful sunny day and we really enjoyed it.

One of our friends’ daughters had her birthday that weekend so we celebrated it with cakes and balloons which the kids loved. We feel so blessed to have so many nice people around.

We had BBQ for lunch and went back to the pool until it was dinner time. Dinner was once again so fun with so many people. We chatted, sang and danced.

The next morning, we left our beautiful holiday home and headed to Avoca beach.

The weather was great for a beach day. The sun was not too strong and the kids loved their time in beach building sand castles and playing in the water. We all enjoyed the last day of our holiday before driving back to Sydney.

Now I am eagerly waiting for our next holiday and getaway.

Australia day 2012

Every year on the 26th of January we celebrate Australia day which is the anniversary of the arrival of the First Fleet of 11 convict ships from Great Britain, and the raising of the Union Jack at Sydney Cove by its commander Captain Arthur Phillip, in 1788.

To mark Australia day, there are lots of activates all around the country. This day not only reflects contemporary Australia, it also highlights Australia’s diverse society, landmarks, achievements and future.

It is a public holiday in Australia. Most people choose to go and attend events organised for this day or just relax with friends and family with BBQ and watch the fireworks.

I went to a shopping centre today and I saw the Australian flag everywhere. It is so nice to see everyone getting into the sprite of Australia day. There are also lots of merchandise for Australia day on sale like party plates, cups, table clothes, lollies. One of the beauty salon was offering Australian flag manicure. That should be interesting.

Every year I try to go and attend celebrations in different part of Sydney. Last year I went to a concert in the city followed by amazing display of fireworks. I had a tattoo of Australian flag on my face (temporary of course!) and was proudly waving our flag.

The year before I had gone to Brighton where there were lots of stalls and market for Australia day celebration. There was a concert and lots of dancing going on. I remembered that day to be very hot so after lunch we went for a quick swim in the ocean.

Today I am going to the city to enjoy the music and fireworks. It will be followed by BBQ lunch and some shopping with hubby.

Australia day is very popular among migrants to take their Australian citizenship. There are lots of ceremonies conducted around the country where many migrants take the oath and become Australian citizens.

Each year there is a celebration of the achievement and contribution of eminent Australians through the Australian of the Year Awards. They are given to Australians who achieved and contribute to a better Australia.

The awards are given in the following categories:

  • Australian of the Year
  • Senior Australian of the Year (those aged 60 years or over)
  • Young Australian of the Year (ages 16 to 30)
  • Australia’s Local Hero

Australian of the Year- Geoffrey Rush. Rush was recognises for his outstanding achievements in a lifetime career on the stage and screen as well as his long-term commitment to the Australian arts, including mentoring young artists.

Senior Australian of the Year – Laurie Baymarrwangga. Laurie has shown extraordinary commitment to maintaining her culture, the environment of her beloved Crocodile Islands and ensuring younger generations continue to keep their heritage alive.

Young Australian of the Year – Marita Cheng. Marita founded Robogals Global in 2008, as a response to the traditionally low levels of participation by women in science, engineering and technology.By 2010, Robogals had run workshops for 3,000 girls in Australia and has now expanded to 17 branches across Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Australia’s Local Hero 2012 – Lynne Sawyers . Lynne has shared her home, her family and her love with more than 200 children. For 15 years, she has been on call to care for lost, abused and bewildered children in heartbreaking circumstances.
