Mummy’s Nappy

These days normally Chhori and AS go to grocery shopping while I fix things at home.

One day AS came home a bit horrified from one of these shopping trips.

He told me that they were at the checkout and a lady before them was buying sanitary pads.

Chhori, in a very loud voice, said, “Look papa, it is mama’s nappy” pointing at the pads and of course everyone around them looked at it.

I couldn’t help but laugh because I had taught her that.

One day she asked me “What’s that?” pointing to the sanitary pads. For me it was easier to explain them as mama’s nappy as she is too small to talk about the real stuff.

I guess I need to think before I explain things to my curious daughter as she will say the most embarrassing things at the most inopportune moments.

Lost baby monitor and remote

Last weekend we put Chhori to nap and tuned her baby monitor camera on. Then we went to the lounge room to turn on the monitor so we can check on her. She normally just wakes up, opens the door and comes out but sometimes when she has nightmares, she will wakes up crying.

So this monitor has been really good for us since she was a baby but on Saturday we couldn’t find it at all. We looked at every possible place it could be in with no luck. While searching, we realised that the TV remote was missing as well and we usually place the two together.

Eventually we gave up as we couldn’t think of any other place they could be in.

After her nap, Chhori woke up, opened the door to the room and came out of the room refreshed and happy.

So we had the following conversation.

Me: “Chhori, did you put the monitor and the remote in the bin as we couldn’t find it.”

Chhori:  “No, I no put in the bin.”

Me: “Do you know where it is?”

Chhori: “In my room.”

We had checked in her room but we hadn’t found it.

At this stage, she took my hand and took me to her room. She went through her toys and it was in one of her toy box. Both remote and monitor sitting there in the box together.

I have no idea why she moved them from their usual place but now AS and I have to think of Chhori as a third person in our home and started including her in all the conversation. We can no longer discount her as a baby as she solved our problem  🙂

Father’s Day, Celebrating both Nepali and Australian way

On Monday , 21st of August was Kushe Aushi (Nepali Father’s Day) and today is Australian Father’s day so we celebrated both the father’s day in very different way for AS.

I always want Chhori to understand Nepali culture and traditions so for Nepali father’s day, it is important for me to show her the traditional way. As it was weekdays, I went shopping after work and prepare for the celebration.

Chhori is 2 and half years old now so it is more fun this year than before as she can understand and take interest on what we are doing. As she is old enough, AS and I gave her direction and she followed them very well.

We had so much fun, her putting tika, sagun  and cutting cake.

Today , I made breakfast to AS with the help of Chhori and she said “Happy Father’s Day Papa”. It is so sweet to see them together. We made pancake , heart shaped eggs and some fruits.

Then she help her papa wash our cars. She was so excited to help.

Pani bhane water

We, especially AS, is trying really hard to teach Nepali to Chhori. Her language skill has got a lot better in the last few months but she mostly speaks in English.

We can’t blame her much as she spends the whole day in the childcare surrounded by English speaking kids and teachers.

Anyway we are trying our best to teach her Nepali at home. The other day she called me “Aama” (Nepali for mother. S’s teaching of course). It made me feel very happy. Normally she calls me Mama or Mummy. I know it is a bit weird but it feels very special when she speaks Nepali. I think I have this strong connection to Nepal that anything like this melts my heart.

Anyway, AS and Chhori were having a conversation in Nepal. So when AS finished a sentence, she said “Pani bhane water”.

It was so cute. Poor baby was trying to understand two languages and trying to make senses in her tiny brain.

All the parents out there who have kids speaking more than one language. Howe do you do it? Please share you tips and tricks. Looking forward to all those comments.

Pyjama day @ childcare

Chhori’s childcare organises different events every week to keep the kids entertained. I like it as it gives us something to look forward to as well.

Lat week, they had Pyjama Day and we made sure Chhori was dress in her PJ and cute shoes.

When AS went to drop her off in the morning, he had to sign an agreement to say that we are OK for her to watch the movie “Moana”.

I had loved the movie when we watched it few months ago.

Anyway when I went to pick her up, there was a parcel next to her bag. The teacher informed us that she had won the best dressed award in her class. It is her first prize from the childcare and even though it is nothing big, we feel so proud. I guess all parents are like this 🙂

They gave her a parcel filled with balloons, lollies, bubbles and some small toys. I am sure Chhori didn’t understand the reason behind the parcel but was excited to see the lollies and toys.

On the other hand, my nephew didn’t understand why he didn’t get an award as well and was quite upset.

Kids can be so funny and cute.
