Child care visit

From the day Chhori was born, every parent around us has suggested putting Chhori on the waiting list for childcare. From their experience it can take more than a year to get a place. As I had to come back to work from my maternity leave, we put down Chhori’s name in two different childcare centres when she was around a few months old thinking she will have to go to child care when she is one, which is when I came back to work.

But lucky for us, my parents decided that they would come and look after Chhori and we were lucky to have them around. But unfortunately like every good thing in life, their stay in Australia will come to an end in a few months’ time which means we need to put Chhori in childcare 5 days a week while we are at work.

Happy 35th Anniversary Dad & Mum (5)

So it was time for us to do childcare visits to determine which childcare we want to send her to. We got offers from two different childcares so we decided to visit them on the same day and we took Chhori with us.

We met with the teachers in both the child care centres where they showed us around the rooms she would be in and also the play area and the toys they have. They also showed us their process for doing things and updating us about her as well as what kind of food is given to her while she will be there.

At the first childcare Chhori saw a drawing table with crayons and paper so she insisted that she wanted to draw. The teacher was kind enough so she was allowed her to draw while we had a chat with the teacher. Once we finish our tour, it was time for us to leave but Chhori refused to go wanting to draw some more.

We distracted her and finally we were out.

At the second childcare, as we were doing the tour, she spotted a few kids and a teacher playing with blocks. She straight away went and started playing with them. We did the rest of the tour without her but I was so surprised that she didn’t seem to care at all that we were not around her. I am sure she didn’t even look for us until we finished everything and went to get her to go home.

No matter what we said she didn’t want to go home so we had to pick her up against her will and leave. She was crying when we left.

That got both us wondering if we made a mistake by not sending her to the childcare sooner. As I have previously mentioned, she is very social and loves people but seeing her enjoying childcare so much, now we hope she will have an easy transition to go to childcare part time in January and full time from March.

I will definitely share our experience next year. Please do share your own childcare experience with your kids. Is it normal for kids to not want to go home?

Accident and lucky escape

I want to believe that we are very relaxed parents especially at our own place as we know the house is baby proof.

Chhori has learned the climbing skill so she keeps on discovering new things to climb on but our place is mostly safe so we let her play without being very worried.

Last week, we went to visit one of our friends. We have been to this friend’s house multiple times and Chhori loves to explore their living room. She was climbing on a coffee table early in the evening.

Anyway we were all watching a movie and Chhori was playing nearby.

Suddenly, she decided that she would climb their shoe rack. Unfortunately, the shoe rack is the one from Ikea which was recommended to be hooked to the wall but it wasn’t.

We were really luck that AS was just near her and caught the rack so it didn’t fall on her. All of us were shocked for a while but Chhori was as cool as a banana. She didn’t scream or cry but was just surprise when I screamed when I saw what was happening. Within a minute, she stared to play with other things in the room as if nothing had happened.

But for us, we learned a good lesson to be near her all the time when we are out and about. As she is getting older, she has become more curious so we need to be very careful and watch what she is doing all the time.

I am more worried about our visit to Nepal. I can’t even imagine how things will work out there.

Do share your own experience and if you know how could we can prevent things like this happening in future.

Take care everyone,

Chhori update

Chhori is 18 months old now, a big girl compared to a year ago. Time is just flying by.

Chhori pasni (5)

It is so true when they say children are like sponge as they absorb everything and it is no different with Chhori.

chhori-6

Recently, she has learned to indicate Yes and No by nodding. I think she is learning all this from the rhymes but she looks absolutely gorgeous when she does them. Also, just yesterday she was putting her both hands on her mouth while laughing. She always manages to amaze me with new stuff every day.

chhori-3

AS had been a great dad and constantly teaches her new stuff and I love watching their interaction. She is definitely becoming demanding now but AS always manages to handle her by teaching that you give in somewhere to get something.

I am so happy that he is so patient with our daughter as I don’t have lots of patience :). I love her to death but sometime she seems to know how to drive me mad.

chhori-2

On the other hand, she has wrapped her grandparents around her ting fingers. She always gets my mum and dad to give her a massage especially her legs. And it has to be both the legs at the same time, one by grandma and one by grandad.

My mum scolds her sometimes when she misbehaves, and threatens to spank her. Now she actually comes to me complaining when I come home and though she can’t say it but shows me a spanking action to complain.

chhori-1

She will miss them a lot when they leave next year.

Her eating habit is changing slowly and we are giving her mostly the same food that we eat. She had 5 chicken steamed momos yesterday proving she is definitely Nepalese. momoShe loves to eat everything on her own too. Sometimes it is a problem because with rice it can get very messy but we are teaching her how to use a spoon.

Last week it was her 18 months immunisation and again this time also she didn’t cry at all. I held her the whole time while the GP gave her the shot, but not a sound was made. She was just curious like last time and watched the needle go into her arms. There was a little blood this time but it didn’t make any difference. I am so happy she didn’t cry.

Second needle in and she kept watching it go inside

More updates soon.

Take care everyone,

My little Chhori

Recently I talked about how we are trying to wean Chhori off her night feed. Well it’s been more than 3 weeks and it is working well. I have to say a big thanks to dear hubby as I have been sleeping well (7-8 hours a day) for the last 3 weeks.

There is also progress with Chhori as her night awaking has lessened and we hope in a few more weeks she will sleep through the night easily.

chhori (1)

But last night, I felt a hurt (being a typical mum I guess). Our normal night time routine is, after dinner, I breastfeed Chhori for a while then, AS takes Chhori to the room to sleep. I think, these days she has started understanding that mummy is not coming to the room to sleep with her.

So I was breastfeeding last night when AS went inside the room and put on the rhyme he plays to put Chhori to sleep. As soon as she heard it, she paused her feeding and tried to find out where rhyme was coming from. When she realised that it was coming from the room, she stop feeding, got off my lap, off the sofa and went inside. She didn’t even turn back. Normally I kiss her good night but because I was not expecting swift her action, I felt a pinch in my heart.

Don’t get me wrong. I am extremely happy that she is at this stage now. It is just that I need to get used to all these changes in her as well. In a few months’ time, I am planning to stop breast feeding altogether so I am sure there will be many more moments like this.

She is growing bigger every day and she is becoming smarter as well. These days, we have tea party. But she is adamant that we only use specific cups. The pink one is hers while the purple is mine and green is for grandma.

chhori (1) chhori (2)

We do pretend to drink and eat. We got her a toy kitchen so she cooks and cleans as well. I love how she uses the toy tap and pretends to clean her hands and dishes.

chhori (3)

Also she enjoys blocks and things with caps on. She also likes shape sorter toys and I am glad it keeps her busy. I hope she will speak a more words soon and I can talk to her 🙂 .

I am loving every moment being a mum and it is definitely one of the best feelings in the world.

Do share what you do with your time with your kids. What are some good toys and games for a toddler for their development and to keep them engaged?

Take care,

Chhori : growing up too fast

I can’t believe how quick kids grow up. I believe it now when people say that all you need to do is have kids and they will grow up; you don’t even remember how time flies by.

Chhori is 16 months now and she constantly manages to surprise us.

chhori (3)

These days, she wants to eat her own meal. So she sits in her chair, she can strap herself in if she wants to and then waits for the tray to be put on the chair. Then she patiently waits for her food. Once the food is on the tray, she wants a fork and she feeds herself. It is so cute to watch her eat.

chhori (1) chhori (2)

I have to admit, she might grow up to be a patient one unlike her mum. It sometimes takes her few attempts to get her food on the fork but she is very persistent and keeps going until she has them on her fork. There were times when she got frustrated and threw her fork but she is getting better at it. She loves her independence.

It is easier for us as well. If there is food she can eat using a fork, like meat, pasta, noodles, veggies, fruits, we cut them into small pieces and give it to her and she will eat it all. Of course, she makes a mess as well but it is all a learning process.

I still haven’t given her rice and lito as she is not very good with a spoon and only 50% goes into her mouth. So that will be our next goal once she masters the fork. But we still are quite proud parents.

chhori (2)

She also managed to surprise me with her dancing. From very early on she has managed to copy the actions from the rhymes on Youtube but this one was very special. I didn’t know that AS was teaching her but he asked me to come to the living area on the weekend.

So when I got there, AS asked Chhori to bring a teddy bear. She got a big pink one and AS started to sing the rhyme “Teddy bear teddy bear turn around” doing the action with the teddy bear. I was pleasantly surprised when Chhori joined and did all the right moves with the rhymes. So the rhyme goes like this

Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Turn around!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Touch the ground!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Jump up high!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Touch the sky!

Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Bend down low!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Touch you toes!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Turn out the light!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Say good night!

Chhori was doing all the right action and the best and cutest part was when she was turning around, doing the full circle. She is doing it so well and I am so happy to watch. This father-daughter team means a world to me for sure.

chhori (6)

I am sure every kid goes through this phase and every parent has these happy moments. Please share yours and let me know what I can look forward to :).

Have a good day everyone and take care.
