Introducing our beautiful daughter (Chhori)

After writing so much about my pregnancy, sorry I disappeared. As many of you might have guessed, I was a bit busy lately.

It is AS and my absolute pleasure to introduce our beautiful daughter, Little M. Our lives have been enriched by the arrival of our beautiful girl and I look forward to sharing many more posts with you in the coming weeks, months, years.

In this blog, I will refer her as Chhori from now on which means daughter in Nepali language.

chhori (4)

Chhori was born on Friday 20 February, 2 weeks before her due date. She came in her own way, on her own time, and turned our lives over in the meantime.

Like every mother I am biased but I think she is an absolute stunner and we feel truly blessed to have her in our life.

Adjusting to our new life has not been easy but I am so glad to have my lovely husband and amazing mum to help me with Chhori. I know we are only 12 days in but I am loving every minute of motherhood and I know there will be a lot more to in the future. AS and I are truly struggling to find the words to describe how life has changed for us. No matter how prepared you try to be, you can’t really understand how it will feel, what will change, what you will accept and what you will struggle with; until you hold your baby in your arms.  And even then, we are still at a loss for words.

We have had busy days since her birth, with lots of visitors and she has been spoiled by friends and family.

I will try my best to blog whenever I can or I should say when my new boss allow me some spare time. Till then,

Take care,

from nepaliaustralian

Sleeping in

I know sleeping-in during the weekends might be something you all must look forward to but it is something I wish I could do for a long time. I wake up between 6:00 am and 6:30 am during weekdays and my body is like an alarm clock and wakes up before 7am even in the weekend no matter what time I go to bed. I try my best to stay in bed after I wake up but it just doesn’t work for me no matter what I do. This is the reason I try to go to bed on time even on weekends.

I know going to bed and getting up at the same time each day will help to keep us feeling good and performing well. However, sometimes I wish I could sleep in too, just for the novelty of it. Most of the mornings, AS will be sleeping when I wake up on Saturdays and Sundays morning and I get jealous of him.

I try not to disturb him so I will either go for a run or try to do something else until he wakes up. I have to admit I do wake him up if he doesn’t wake up by 8 am sometimes. It might sound cruel of me but there are times I am so bored that I need company.

Last weekend we had to go to a birthday on Saturday. I always like to go to parties where I dress up in traditional sari. Even though we didn’t go out during the day, it took me a while to be ready. You know, it’s a woman thing, hair, makeup, sari and accessories can take heaps of time.

sari

Anyway, we had a good time at the party and were home back a bit late, not too late though. We went to bed straight away when we came home as I was really tired.

The next morning, I woke up. When I turned around, AS was awake (that was a bit of a surprise for a weekend) so I asked him what the time was. He answered 10am and I couldn’t believe my ears.

I think I haven’t slept in till 10am since forever even when I went to bed at 3am so I was really happy that I finally did. I felt good and fresh. I wished I could do that more often (fingers crossed).

But sleeping in on weekends doesn’t seem like a great idea this morning when I couldn’t wake up like normal today. Both of us were running around like headless chicken getting ready this morning. Feeling a bit tired and not fresh at all today 😦 .

Hope all of you had a good weekend and no dramas with your sleep.

Do let me know your sleeping patterns for the weekends and some suggestion if you know how I can fix my tried body today.

Take care,

I am getting old

For the last two weeks or so I have been having some pain in the right side of my back. It stared on the day of my nephew’s birthday and wasn’t too frequent for a week but then suddenly it has been painful all the time for a week now.

I went to the doctor last week to see if he can do anything. He examined me and told me to see if it gets better in time, gave me some painkillers and asked me to put a heat pack on it. I always want a miracle when I visit the doctor and was hugely disappointed when the pain continued even after the visit.

So now I am not able to do a fast walk during my lunch break and I haven’t swum for a week. On top of that I am avoiding high heel shoes and that was a big deal for me.

Anyway looks like my age is catching up with me and for the time being I need to be extra careful with my back.

Hope everyone had a great week.

Take care ,

Bringing Nepal to our home

When I was young and naive, I had planned to build a nice Nepalese architecture style house in Sydney. I wanted to buy land and bring craftsmen from Nepal to construct this dream home.

I wanted to use wooden Nepalese style windows and doors. Make every part of the house as Nepali as possible.

I also wanted a garden with a pagoda and dunga dhara (stone water feature). I still want to make it one day if I win a lottery but for the time being I need to dream a little smaller.

When we bought our place here in Sydney, it didn’t have anything Nepalese; it was a modern building with modern interior. Still I wanted people to get a feel of Nepal when they visit our place so we tried our best to bring Nepal into our living room.

When people visit us, the first thing they notice will be a big oil painting. The painting is of a landscape of Nepal with mountains, hills, village style house and everything Nepalese.

It is around 5 feet by 3 feet. There is a long story behind the painting. It took us a while in Nepal to find the painting and we are glad that we managed to get it. We brought it from Nepal but got it framed in here.

The next thing they will notice are two Nepalese handmade carpets in the dining area and living area. We were really lucky to get these carpets.

When we were in Nepal, we looked for the carpets for a month and we could not find anything we liked. Most of them were too multicoloured and too modern for our liking. We wanted a typical Nepalese design and we were hugely disappointed. Luckily, we went to do this trade fair and the first shop we went to had these carpets and we got them right away. It was just a few days before we left. For me, these carpets were love at first sight. 🙂

We also have a large statue of Goddess Tara displayed on one side of the TV cabinet.

On the TV table, I also have a statue of Buddha and the supari from our wedding.

On the buffet table, I have a statue of standing Budda and two panas.

I also got the window valance custom made in Nepal. It is not really Nepalese style but I like it.

I still have a few things planned to make the room more Nepalese but I am happy with the outcome.

What do you think of my Nepalese collection :)?Please share what did you bring from your heritage to your home?

Why I blog (Nepaliaustralian)?

This is a guest post I wrote for , nepalichori, amazing blog I have been following for a while. Thank you so much for the opportunity and sharing the post here.

AS Photography (10)

First of all thank you Nepali Chori for giving me the opportunity to share my thoughts and ideas on your blog. I believe that it is a great initiative and a brilliant idea.

Today I am going to share my ideas on why I blog and why Nepaliaustralian?

I think most of the people who know me via my blog know that I am an IT professional which means the computer is my livelihood. So when I spend so much time in front of the computer it is natural that I do lots of research and on one of these researches I found a few really nice blogs that I loved to read. The bloggers wrote about their lives, their likes and their thoughts.

I started reading these blogs regularly and there were times I wanted to leave a comment, which forced me to make an account with WordPress so I could comment easily rather than answering the same questions many times. One time when I was writing a comment I realised that I had typed more than a page and I was a bit ashamed to post it as a comment. It’s like I was hijacking the original post.

That moment I realised that I had so many ideas and thoughts that blogging might me a good place to share and that is how Nepaliaustralian.com was born. Initially I was not sure what I was going to share in my blog but as time went by I knew I wanted to blog about my life and my love for Nepali culture and traditions. I am also glad that people started reading my posts, commenting, and liking it which encouraged me to continue.

Nirbuni (11)

As you know the theme of my blog is “Living in west with values of east” and I stand by it every day. If you read my blog, you will find posts and information about different places of Nepal, Nepali festivals, Nepali food, how I brought Nepali traditions to my home here in Sydney and much, much more.

I wanted to have a blog where words are not pre-planned, and thoughts are not edited. I have a passion for sharing whatever I know about Nepal, its cultures, traditions and to become a part of the community.  There are so many great people sharing their experience on the blogosphere that I am glad to share my ideas in the same platform.

I am overwhelmed when I receive an email or a comment thanking me for helping in someone’s life, how they read my blog regularly and how I inspire them. I could have never thought in my wildest dream that my writing could help someone I have never met in some corner of the world. It led me down a new road of adventure, learning so much about just everything along the way.

Through my blog, I have made some good friends who are a part of my life now. There are also many more I would love to meet one day as they are such beautiful human beings and it will be my pleasure to get to know them better.

So this blog has not only let me share my ideas and thoughts but also helped me get many excellent ideas from people as well as learn a lot from their experience.

I hope to continue writing for a long time.

What are your favorite blogs? What do you like to read? Do you have a blog yourself? Do you write your thoughts and ideas?
