Tips on baby friendly holidays please

I am sure you all know by now that I love travelling and going to new places. The last time, we had a holiday was our babymoon to New Zealand.

So it has been more than a year since my feet touched a new place so it is definitely itching. But the big problem now is I have no clue about holidaying with a baby.

We definitely want to go spread our wings with Chhori but we are so new to this that we are a bit scared. I don’t know what kind of holiday I need to research. There are so many questions in my mind. Beach, mountains or something else? Is she too young? Should we wait? Will she be bored or annoyed if we fly? What do you do when you travel with a year-old baby?

While I was pregnant, I was thinking that we will do what suits us and the baby will adapt but looking at Chhori now I don’t want her to be uncomfortable in any way thus all these questions in my mind. She is the most important person in my life right now and I will never forgive myself if I put her through a difficult situation.

Anyone who has travelled with a small baby, please do share your tips. We definitely need a holiday but we are so clueless.

Hope to book something soon and slowly adapt to our new life as parents and travellers  🙂

Take care everyone,

My parents are leaving

6 months ago I was so happy and I wrote a post that my parents are coming to stay with us for 6 months. At that time 6 months seemed like a long time but now the time has passed and my parents are leaving this weekend.

Yes, it has been six months since their arrival. After their arrival, they organised my Dahi Chiura ceremony. They were here when we welcomed Chhori into this world and they were here for every small developments with Chhori till now.

We did manage to visit many places around Sydney with them. My mum loved Madame Tussad as well as other attraction like Sydney Sea life, Sydney tower, Featherdale National Park, Manly Sea Life, Sealife Sydney and many other places.

We celebrated Chhori’s Chhathi, Nawaran and Pasni, my mum’s birthday, dad’s birthday, their anniversary, our anniversary , Mother’s day and my nephew’s birthday while they were here.

I have got so used to having them around. It has been the longest time we have been together since I left Nepal to come here. As I was not working after the birth of Chhori, I got to spend heaps of time with them, I feel so lucky to have them around and see them enjoying their grandchildren.

I loved my mum’s cooking, conversation with my dad and spoiling them with small things. It felt so good to buy them things and see them happy.

Wedding Ceremony

But in few a days, all of these are coming to an end for now. I am not sure how I will manage without them.

Not only I but Chhori and my nephew will also miss them badly as they are so used to seeing and playing with their grandma and granddad.

Happy 35th Anniversary Dad & Mum (11)

For me it will be a nightmare as it will be the first time I will be left with Chhori on my own for a long period. As AS will be working it will be Chhori and I alone the whole day. Chhori is growing so fast and has started to roll over which means I can’t even seem to blink my eyes or look away from her and she starts to roll over. I am sure I will cry the first few days.

If things work out as planned, they promise to come back again in 6 months’ time. I am hoping it will happen but in the meantime, it will be all alone with my little on.

I know I am extremely lucky to have them here even for a short period as not everyone is as lucky to have their parents here to help them after child birth but even imagining their not being here makes me so sad.

Wish me luck that I will not go crazy. Any tips on how to look after a baby on my own will be highly appreciated. I hope to share the happy news about their arrival again soon.

Until my next post, take care everyone,

Life’s small pleasures

There are moments in life that makes you smile and I love those moments. I think it is the small moments like this that make life truly amazing. Here are some moments in my life making me a happier person.

The love between generations

My brother posted this photo in Facebook, my nephew kissing my dad (laptop screen). They were Skyping and he saw my dad on the other side and kissed the screen. How cute and heart touching. I am sure my parents are overjoyed.

my nephew

My parents are really enjoying their first grandson and it is really nice to see my nephew loving them back unconditionally.

The Lion King musical

I am normally skeptical about musicals but we decided to go and watch when we read so many raving reviews about The Lion King.

The Lion King (2)

The show tells the tale of Disney’s “The Lion King” through acrobatics, dance, music and puppetry. Based on the 1994 animated film, the musical follows the adventures of Simba, a lion cub, as he struggles to accept the responsibility of adulthood and his destined role of King.

We loved the 2 and half hours of amazing performance with singing, dancing, brilliant costumes and breath taking stage settings. I highly recommend this show to everyone especially if you have kids over 5 years old who know The Lion King story.

Discovering yummy food

I was starving after our show yesterday and was walking around looking for place to eat. We like the adventure of trying new food in new places and found this nice Malaysian place. It didn’t look much different from outside but the food was just amazing.

nasi lemak

We had Nasi lemaka and Mee goreng and both AS and I enjoyed the food. The Nasi lemak was so perfect that we decided to order take away for our lunch today. This was a discovery of some great food 🙂

Loving hubby

Knowing deep down that you truly matter to someone else is one of the happiest feelings in the world. My hubby has shown that to me time and time again. Recently I have been sick due to cold and flu and he has been so amazing. I become an annoying bi*ch when I am sick and I know that. Even when I try my best not to be, I cannot help it.

But hubby was there all the time taking care of me, making me feel better even though I was giving him a hard time. He was understanding, caring and looking after me that my demon died after a while and I was grateful to have someone in my life who cares for me so much.

Making him smile

I decided last week to cook a nice meal for hubby. That day I decided to make an extra effort so cooked rice, chicken, vegies, achar as well as baked a cake for desert. It took me a couple of hours to accomplish what I wanted to do but it was all worth it when I saw his smile when he was eating dinner. He just loved my cooking and I love to see his happy face when he eats.

Parents love

Even though I have been living away my parents’ home for more than a decade now, I just love the feeling when I talk to my parents. We Skype every week and it feels like we have never been apart. My mum shares everything with me from what she cooked for dinner to what she did, bought, went, talked, watched and my dad still talks about finance and household. It really makes me feel so close to them and still a part of the family.

I guess for parents, no matter where the kids are and how old they are, they still know how to make them feel special and my parents do that every day without expecting anything is return. Thank God for such wonderful parents who made me who I am today and making me stronger every day.

A million thanks to God for making my day right with reminders of what is truly important.

Please share your life’s small pleasure and have a great day.

Take care ,

Namaste from Kathmandu

Finally I am in Kathmandu now. We had a fun time in Bangkok about which I will write in detail when I get time :). It was really hot and humid in Bangkok. From the extreme hot weather there I am now in Kathmandu where the weather is really cold.

The flight to Kathmandu was very emotional for me; I was really happy but anxious at the same time. It was a short 3 hours flight so it went really quick. Almost half the plane was full of Nepali people returning home so I could hear people speaking in Nepali from all direction. It took a while for me to adjust mentally as it is not common in Sydney to hear so many people speaking Nepali at the same time.

Almost 2 hours after take-off we entered Nepal and I could see the beautiful Himalayas. It was so nice to feel the beauty of the place. The snow-capped mountains and hills looked magnificent.

But as we got closer to Kathmandu, I could also see a layer of smoke just above valley blurring my view to the beautiful panoramic mountains. It is so sad to realise that Kathmandu is really polluted these days.

As we got closer I could see some villages with small houses and large fields and then suddenly, there were houses everywhere. I knew we were in Kathmandu then as the view was only of houses after houses. Finally we landed in Tribhuvan international airport.

The airport hasn’t changed a bit from our last visit. There was a queue to clear the immigration and then we took the luggage and were out. I was not expecting my parents to pick us up as I mentioned in my last post but as soon as I came out, I saw my dad waving at us. I was really happy to see him. It was a good surprise from him.

At the airport, the place looked really chaotic. I am not sure why they don’t manage the place properly. There were so many cars and taxis parked everywhere. There were drivers haggling people offering rides and then there were lots and lots of people I am not sure doing what.

My in laws were still on the way when my dad called them so we waited for a few minutes. It was nice to see all my in laws including my BILs coming to pick us up from the airport. We hopped into the car and made our way home.

From airport to home (AS’s home) was not a bad ride but I got to witness Kathmandu’s chaotic traffic and the pollution. I reminded myself that I will be fine and just need to take care that I drink good water and food so I can enjoy my holiday without getting sick.

My dad also came to AS’s home with us and stayed for lunch so it felt good to see him. After that he left and we spent some time with the rest of the family. They all liked their gifts and were happy to see us in Nepal.

My MIL had already prepared lunch for us as well so I had my first meal in Nepal which was rice, goat curry, cauliflower curry and the yummy lapsi ko achar. It was nice to eat home-made food after many days of Thai food in Thailand.

After lunch I went to my house with AS. My FIL dropped us there which was really nice of him. I took all the gifts I had brought for my family with us. Mum was already back from work and dad was home as well.  My brother, SIL and little nephew travelled to Nepal from Australia a week before us. It was so nice to see all my family. My nephew is looking so good and cute. I saw him after 10 days.

We spent some time with them and it was time for me to go back to my new home. My FIL picked us up again and we were back to my new home.

It was our first night here so all the family members were waiting for us. We all sat together in one room having a good conversation. It was nice to see AS spending quality time with his family and they welcomed me into their home with open arms.

We went to bed around 11pm but my body was still in Australian time so was really tired.

Finally I am in Nepal with our family. Will keep you posted from Kathmandu.

Take care everyone and hope all the Christmas shopping are done  🙂
