Sharing One of My Favourite Nepal Bhasa Songs

I hope you all enjoy listening to Makha Twa Ya Gwa, one of the popular and cherished songs in the Nepal Bhasa (Newar) community. This song beautifully captures the essence of Newar culture and tradition, showcasing the depth of the language and the emotions tied to it.

The song is filled with poetic lyrics that speak to the heart and soul, and it has a timeless quality that resonates with listeners of all ages. The rich, melodic tunes paired with the thoughtful lyrics make it a standout in Nepal Bhasa music.

The song is performed by the talented Roj Man Maharjan and Nisha Deshar, whose voice and artistry bring the song to life. With their unique style and powerful delivery, they have made a significant impact on Nepal Bhasa music and have helped keep the tradition alive for newer generations.

Whether you’re a fan of Nepal Bhasa music or are new to it, Makha Twa Ya Gwa is a song you’ll definitely want to listen to. The beauty of the song, paired with its cultural significance, makes it one of my all-time favourites.

Enjoy, and let the melody transport you to the heart of Newar culture! Here’s the translation of the song in Nepali, so you can appreciate the meaning behind the beautiful words:

Chhora’s 5th birthday celebration

We celebrated Chhora’s birthday with a few friends and family over the weekend. He was super excited because he got the Power Ranger decorations he had wished for. Kids are so easy to please, and the smile and excitement on his face made everything we did worth it.

The day started early, with us running around to prepare for the party. We had nuggets, fruits, chips, and fairy bread for the kids, and biryani with raita, salad, cheese and crackers, chips, and dips for the adults.

The house was filled with the delicious aroma of food and the vibrant colors of Power Ranger decorations.
Chhora loved all the attention and had an amazing time with his friends. We played fun games like charades, running with balloons, and had a piñata. The laughter and joy that filled the air were contagious.

The highlight of the day was cutting the homemade Power Ranger cake. Chhora’s eyes lit up as he saw the cake, and his excitement was absolutely heartwarming. Watching him blow out the candles while everyone sang “Happy Birthday” was a precious moment.

Seeing Chhora so happy and enjoying every minute of his special day made all the effort and planning worthwhile. It was a fantastic day filled with laughter, joy, and wonderful memories.

Do you celebrate your kids’ birthdays with a theme? If so, what themes have you tried?

Vivid Sydney 2024: A Festival to Remember!

Vivid Sydney is back for its 14th year, and they promised that it’s going to be epic!

This annual creative festival truly captures the soul of our city, bringing together the most brilliant and boundary-pushing artists, thinkers, and musicians from around the world. From 24 May to 15 June 2024, Vivid Sydney lights up the city with mesmerising art displays, 3D light projections, exhilarating live music, all set against the iconic backdrop of Sydney.

This year, we decided to mix things up and take a boat cruise to watch the lights—it was an absolute blast!

Our adventure began at Circular Quay, where we boarded a two-storey boat with a fantastic outdoor space. We were handed drinks as we stepped on board, and our 90-minute cruise kicked off. Gliding through the harbour, we enjoyed breathtaking views of Sydney’s skyline illuminated by Vivid lights, including a stunning display on the Opera House.

The boat cruised over to Darling Harbour. While we didn’t catch as many Vivid details from there, the stunning night skyline of Sydney more than made up for it.

After disembarking back at Circular Quay, we took a leisurely stroll around the iconic Opera House, which was buzzing with people enjoying the cool evening and amazing light displays. The kids were over the moon with the happy atmosphere!

We made our way to Customs House, where creativity and innovation were on full display with lasers and 3D video projections—definitely a highlight for the kids. They were so mesmerised that they didn’t want to leave!

To wrap up the night, we grabbed dinner at a nearby food mart and headed home, still buzzing from the incredible light show.

I can’t wait to go back and explore more of Vivid, especially the displays at Darling Harbour and other areas we haven’t seen yet.

My posts from past Vivid 2013 2014 2016 2017.

Have you been to Vivid yet? Does your city host anything similar?

The weekend away with amazing photos

The weekend we went to Snowy Mountain, we stayed in a remote cabin in front of a lake and there were wild animals everywhere. We saw kangaroos, wallabies, rabbits, wombats, different kinds of birds and it was just amazing. The only drawback was there was no reception for the phone. It might be a plus point if you are thinking to have a good time with loved ones without any distraction.

We really enjoyed our stayed there and AS was able to capture some amazing photos of the place. I’m sharing some of my favourite ones here.

There was bird seeds placed in each room so we took ours and went to feed the birds. They were so used to humans that one of them even landed on my head and another was happy to perch on my hand to eat the seeds from my palm.

During our way back, we stopped at a small town called Adaminaby where there was big trout. So here is my pic kissing the fish, of course it was AS’s idea and photography.

Monochrome Trend

This article was published in +977 (a Nepalese Lifestyle Magazine in Australia) in September 2013 issue.

Isn’t it so awesome to finally welcome spring after what seems like a very long winter? Off with our winter woollies and on with our floral, monochrome, bold colours and pastel outfits. With ideal temperatures for the next few months, let’s celebrate the warm weather with something fun and uplifting.

Sometimes things are simple and are black and white. If you are not big on colours, you can get inspired to think in black and white with monochrome outfits and accessories this spring. This fashion trend is one of the easiest ways to update your wardrobe for spring.

Catwalk shows from Marc Jacobs to Chanel showcased their black and white designs and the looks have quickly translated to our streets. Wearing just black and white is a great way to add interest to an outfit; it’s eye-catching and can work wonders on every body shape using different proportions.

 Tips on wearing monochrome

  • To brighten up a black and white look, simply add a pair of neon heels, colourful necklace or a bright, oversized clutch.
  • Curved contrasting panels on dresses accentuate or create an hourglass shape.
  • Draw attention to your top half by pairing a geometric patterned jacket with black pants.
  • Vertical panels make you look taller and slimmer.
  • To take your black and white look to an evening event, jazz it up with a red or pink lips to contrast with the simplicity of the outfit.
  • Experimenting with different shades and it will give your outfit variety .
