Noisy neighbour

Sometimes when you move into a new neighbourhood, you may have some noisy neighbours or someone new moves into your building and they are noisy. They may be someone who shouts a lot, have their music high every time or just wakes up too early and starts mowing their lawn.

I have seen lots of times on TV, the war between neighbours from hell. Thank god I am not writing about someone like that but still for the last few weeks one of our neighbours is bothering us a lot.

Looks like he had moved in recently as we never had this problem before. There is a guy who lives in our building 2 floors below us and he always has his music on high volume. It doesn’t normally bother me when I am doing things as I don’t hear it when I am watching TV or cooking but it bothers me when we go to bed.

Even when I close every door and window in our apartment, I can hear Rihanna or Pink playing. Worst part is, it is not limited to weekends but it happens everyday. On weekdays, it is really hard for me to fall asleep as I am a light sleeper and the noise bothers me. I even tried to put a pillow on top of my head to block the noise but so far it is not working. I don’t get enough sleep which makes me tired during the day.

First he started to play on weekends till 2am. I thought he may be having a party so thinking it as a one-off thing I didn’t give it much though. Then it started to happen every day till very late. I am not sure if the rest of my neighbours are bothered by that but so far seems like no one has complained.

One evening, me and AS were coming home and as his apartment is on the ground floor, we have to pass it. The music was really loud as we passed his place so I just looked into the room thinking there must be a party on but there was none. It was only him and he was in the window shaking his head and singing along the music. So I think it is only him everyday who is enjoying the music but the volume is always on high. When I saw him the other day, he looked a bit weird like someone a bit crazy or someone on drugs so I don’t want to talk to him. Actually I am scared of him to let him know that his music is disturbing us.

I am hoping someone will complain about it either to him or the building manager soon so I don’t get sleep deprived due to his loud music. If nothing happens soon, I am thinking to call the building manager to let him know that it is a nuisance.

I am not the kind of person who wants to stop someone’s fun but I really don’t want to struggle every night just to sleep.

I have been in the receiving end of people who wanted to stop our fun. It was Saturday night and I was having my birthday party few years ago. At around 9 pm, there was someone on the door. When I opened the door, there were two cops. They told me that some neighbours complained about the loud noise so we have to stop the music. I was a bit annoyed because it was a weekend and it was 9 pm but the cops told me that they had to come when someone called and complained. May be I should call the cop on my neighbour too.

While on the topic of noisy neighbours how would you like to wake up in the middle of night to weird sounds? Yap, one of my friends has that problem and the worst part is it is her next door neighbour. When I visited her, I saw the couple and they seemed to be in their late 40’s. They looked friendly and nice.  But at least a couple of times in a week, their bed bangs against the wall next to my friend’s bedroom. Also the lady moans and makes all the other weird noises which wakes my friend up in the middle of the night. It has been happening for years now. My friend is too embarrassed to bring that up with her neighbour so she is still suffering. Often it has made her oversleep in the morning making her late for work.

Did you ever have a neighbour from hell or just a noisy one? How did you deal with them?

Magic

Magic: even the word is mysterious. When I was young I loved magical things like Santa Claus, tooth fairy and fairytales. I never question their existence. Also I loved all the magic shows they had on TV, which were mostly simple magic tricks. I remember when I was 10 there was a big magician that came to Kathmandu. My mum took me and my brother to watch the show and I was blown away by it. For me it was all so surreal and amazing.

Then the internet was born so was 100 + different channels which kind of gave away all the fun of magic. They showed us how the magicians do their tricks so nothing is magical any more but all is illusion. It is probably good for the people who wanted to know how things are done but especially for the kids and those who are kids at heart, it destroyed all the fun and imagination of magic.

On Saturday we went to watch a show call The Illusionists in Sydney Opera house. The show was conducted by 7 great magicians of the world who called themselves The Gentleman, The Trickster, The Escapologist, The Grand Illusionist, The Inventor, The Mentalist and The Anti Conjuror.

Their website describes the show as follows

The illusionists are a world first. 7 of the greatest magicians on the planet are coming together for the first time, bringing with them the very best of their individual acts and a whole team of magical assistants. The result is a brand new show packed with thrilling and sophisticated magic of unprecedented proportions.

From never before seen illusions to jaw dropping acts of levitation, mind-reading and escapes, The illusionists is revolutionary, bringing the age old art of magic into the 21st century. Cutting edge and contemporary don’t expect rabbits and top hats, but do expect to be mesmerised by these grand masters of magic and illusion, each with their own speciality and mind-blowing signature act. With over 25 million YouTube hits between them, their solo shows alone sell hundreds of thousands of tickets at sold out arenas around the world. To see them all on the one stage in this unique collaboration is unheard of, creating a whole new genre of spectacular entertainment the whole family will enjoy.

The Illusionists-witness the impossible and be swept away by this worldwide phenomenon.

I was happy to go and watch the show but wasn’t sure what to expect. I haven’t been to a magic shows for years but we wanted to go and see this one as they described this as one of the best shows as there are 7 of them performing great illusions.

The show was in Sydney Opera house so we went their early to collect our tickets. Just before the show started we were allowed to go inside the show hall and were ushered to our seats. We had a box which had a great view. There were lots of kids in the audience as it is school holidays. Just the atmosphere made me happy and was glad we were there.

It started with The Trickster‘s funny jokes and magic which was followed by the rest of the magician. It was humorous and everyone was laughing their guts out. Also they had great audience participation for the show which made it even more real. Some of the tricks they showed were really complex to execute but it was done beautifully.

The best one for me was from The Mentalist who was able to tell what word the audience member was going to pick from a 500 pages English dictionary. I am sure someone can explain that to me but he had it printed out in A4 paper before the show (as he said). It was really good.

Also to see a woman appear floating on the air out of no where and The Grand Illusionist sucked in by the big fan was magical. Overall fun two hours show which was filled with laughter and cheers.

Even when I know it was all an illusion, I believe in magic once again.  🙂 🙂 🙂

Deceiving advertisements

Every time you watch TV, there are thousands of ads encouraging you to buy the various products. I do understand that they have to promote their products but I hate that the adverting are so deceiving. They use good looking models or happy looking family or a bloke with 6 packs in the ad to promote their product. Everyday we see commercial with beautiful women who have perfect beautiful hair. It is bouncy and shiny. I have been using some of those products for ages and my hair never became so shiny and bouncy. I think that TV commercials are very deceiving and it annoys me. Watch the ad from the link below.

Do you think using that shampoo will make your hair go all silky and nice? No way, but still they think all of us are fools and advertise it like that. On top of that, the worst part is that they can get away with such deceiving advertisement.

If a product is really going to do what is advertised I have no problem but most of the times it is all just hype and it gets really annoying. Right now there are two ads on the TV that annoys me a lot. One is the ad of Jenny Craig and other one is Optus. Both of them are so long and comes so often that I started switching channels as soon as I see them.

Another example of deceiving ads is from fast food stores like McDonald, Hungry Jack’s, Subway. If you see any ad from them, their food seems to look so good: plump and juicy and made with lots of care.  When you go and buy the same burger, it is all dry and you realise that they have just thrown all the ingredients on bun and served it to you. Nothing is ever made with the love and care that is shown in the ads. I have never bought a burger that looked like the ones in the ads.

How can I forget to mention all those infomercials, while I am talking about deceiving advertisement?OMG have you heard the story about all the people in the ad who lost weight using their product so easily and they are living happily now. Or the story of those people who have bought their product and now their life is so easy and mess free. I want to really laugh at them. My brother once bought a product called Abswing from one of these people. In the ad, it shows you that it is really easy to use but in reality you can’t do what the model was doing as easily. On top of that, it broke in a few months. What a joke and waste of money.

Also on all these commercials, there is a disclaimer in small print like for weight loss equipment ad: “Result achieved if used with regular exercising and dieting”. So what is this equipment for and why are you advertising it as if it is a magic wand.

I know in Australia there is a government body who is supposed to regulate these ads but I really don’t think they are working very hard. There are so many misleading ads in the market that innocent people can easily get ripped off. I seriously think it is time that stricter rules are put in place for all these people who make millions of dollars off us while giving us the deceiving ads for their products.

Happy Birthday AS!

It was AS’s birthday on December 28. As we were on holiday, I didn’t know what to do for his birthday. Before we left for the  holiday, I had contacted the resort we were staying in Vanuatu and asked them if they could bake a cake for me. I was happy when they emailed me back confirming that they could. I tried my best to make it a secret until his birthday. It was really hard to get away from him to talk to the staff there. I also hid his card and gifts in my suitcase. I am so glad he didn’t find them until his birthday.

On the morning of the 28th, I couldn’t sleep as there were thousands of things in my mind. I woke up at 5 am and started planning for his surprise birthday. As we had booked to go for Abseiling at 9am, I needed to execute my plan before 9 am. So I went to talk to the staff to plan everything while AS was still in bed.

As normal, we went to the resort’s restaurant for breakfast. He ordered a big breakfast and I ordered a continental breakfast with fruits. I had instructed the staff to get the cake before we had our breakfast. We were seated by the pool and there were a few  other tables with holiday makers having their breakfast.

I was facing the walk way and AS has his back to it. So when the waiter came with the cake, he didn’t see it at first. I started singing the “Happy Birthday” song and AS thought it was someone else’s birthday so he started singing as well before he turned around and saw the cake and realised that the cake was for him. In the mean time everyone else at the other tables started singing Happy Birthday for him.

I really liked the surprised look on his face after seeing the cake. It was his favourite flavour, double chocolate mud cake. I couldn’t get one any smaller but I was really glad to see it turn out so good. It was just perfect. Then he made a wish and cut the cake. One of the guests was really nice and offered to take some photos of the both of us.

Then it was time to open his gifts. I got him a card, an android tablet and a UFC trainer game for his XBOX. I knew he wanted them so I am glad that he liked them all. He had this big grin on his face that made me really happy.

Then we had our breakfast and went for Abseiling (I will write about this later when I am back in Sydney). It was one of the most fun things we did in Vanuatu.

We came back to the resort to change and were off to the Melanesian dinner (local Vanuatu style dinner with cultural dance show). We really enjoyed the food and dance.

It was a perfect celebration for AS. I was really happy that he enjoyed his day so much.

21 Dec 2011

You might be wondering what I am going to write about 21 December 2011. Actually it started out as any normal day yesterday but then I couldn’t believe my joy when I logged into my blog. I have reached a milestone of 10,000 views but the amazing thing was I got 700+ hits yesterday. It may be normal traffic on some of your blogs but my highest has been 300+ so to have so many hits made my day.

When I first started blogging back in September I wasn’t even sure if anyone would read what I wrote but gradually I was happy to see traffic on my site. This month I was also given awards, four of them :).  Now I am very proud to say that I have a few regular readers who shower me with their love, support, comments and likes. You know I am talking about you :). So thank you so much. I wouldn’t have come this far without your support.

Starting a blog has helped me to connect with lots of like minded people and introduced me to some wonderful human beings. Also, reading others blogs have given me great insights on lots of topics which I would not have known otherwise. So Thank You to all who read, commented, liked and supported me so far. Hope to have the same love and support in the future as well.

Happy reading and thank you once again!!!
