Pan fried Chicken Gizzard

As I have mentioned in my previous post, in Nepal, a goat’s brain (gidi), feet (khutta), head (tauko), stomach (bhundi), tongue (jibro), liver (kalejo), kidney, lungs (phokso), fried intestines (aandra), fried solidified blood (rakati) are considered delicacies and are in very high demand during Dashain and other festivals. We also eat certain parts of chicken apart from the usual.

I know some of you might feel squeamish even thinking about eating offal but believe me if you love your meat, you will love these dishes. Another thing is that eating offal uses the parts of the animal that might otherwise be wasted. As it takes 10 kilos of cereal to produce one kilo of meat we should not waste any part of the carcass. Unless you deliberately avoid meat, eating offal should be regarded as “green”.

Today I am sharing the recipe to cook chicken gizzard. A gizzard is an organ found in the digestive tract of a chicken. Similar to a stomach, the gizzard is used to grind up the foods the bird eats. Eating gizzards provide a healthy dose of certain vitamins and minerals.

Chicken Gizzard is a very popular appetizer and tastes really good.

Ingredients

  • 500 gm Chicken Gizzard, cleaned
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger/Garlic Paste
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander Powder
  • 3 teaspoon Vegetable Oil
  • Salt to taste

Method

  • Clean the chicken gizzards and boil them for 5 minutes until they are tender.

BioAge Report

The gym I was going to offered a free BioAge test for the team who won one of their challenges and lucky for me I was in that team. Before that I was not aware of BioAge.

A BioAge assessment gives you an extensive health assessment that will allow you to compare your chronological age with your measured biological age, as well as advice on how to reduce your biological age and improve your longevity.

Source : BioAgetest.com

For my BioAge test, I had to fill a form which had questions regarding my health and my diet. Then they measured my weight, height, BMI and after that they got me to do a few physical tests like plank, steps, crunches and some more exercises.

exercise (2)

It took around 40 minutes for the entire test to finish and I got the result the next day.

The result stays that my biological age is a lot younger than my chronological age, 8.5 years to be precise.

I am very happy with the result actually because I have doubts about my fitness at times and with this test I know I am in a good place. I could still build some more strength and could improve it further. One thing I noticed was that not smoking and not drinking alcohol helps to positively increase the gap between the chronological age and the biological age.

Take care everyone,

Blessed to be a mum :)

Every day since Chhori came to this world, I feel so blessed to be a mum. A lot of small and big things have happened in the past year which has made my life so happy. Sometimes I wonder why I waited so long to have a baby but then I know the answer for that too  :).

Chhori (3)

As I mentioned in the previous post, I exercise in the morning a few days a week. Today when I woke up at 6 o’clock to do my exercise before work, Chhori decided to wake up too. I tried unsuccessfully to put her back to sleep and eventually took her out of her cot and to the lounge where I was going to exercise.

Chhori (2)

I let her sit on the sofa while I turned on the TV and put my exercise video on. I am doing HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) exercise 20-30 minutes in the morning. I change the routine everyday so I don’t get bored.

I started my exercise with mountain climbing and squats. She was just sitting quietly and watching what I was going. Then I started jumping jacks. Once I started jumping she started smiling at first and then laughing and clapping. That moment was so cute; I couldn’t help but laugh with her. As I repeated the routine, she kept laughing making my day so much brighter.

Chhori (1)

I also did a few set of burpee and I need to jump for that and she loved it too and she was so happy watching me. I am so happy that she woke up and enjoyed watching me exercise.

After a few other routines, I had to exercise lying on my back. As I started doing crunches, she got down from the sofa and went to touch my tummy and legs. I was feeling ticklish at the time but AS came to my rescue and took her away for a while. I did finish all my routine and I felt so good that Chhori was around all the time.

Chhori (4)

I know she won’t wake up so early every morning but now I know that if she does, I will not try to put her back to sleep but will enjoy the extra time I can spend with her.

Because of the great start of the morning, I am feeling really great today.

I hope everyone out there is having a great day too. Take care.

Enjoying Zumba

As I mentioned in my last post, I have joined a gym and every Thursday I look forward to the Zumba class.

Zumba is a Latin-inspired cardio-dance workout that uses music and choreographed steps to form a fitness party atmosphere. Zumba involves dance and aerobic elements. The choreography incorporates hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue and mambo.

As I love dancing, it is the perfect workout for me and I enjoy it so much.

I had heard about Zumba for years but had never joined one; now I am so glad to be going to one.

The first time I went to the class, I was a bit scared as I didn’t know what to expect but one hour in a room with people who were psyched about having a good time and dancing around to high-energy Latin music was a great experience. The class is full of men and women of all ages and sizes. You don’t need any dance experience or skills, only the willingness to enjoy the fun class.

I enjoy the class so much I feel as if the one hour has just gone too fast. I sweat so much that I know my body had good workout. I am still learning so I don’t do all the steps well but that doesn’t matter as I know I will get better with time.

Anyone who is into Zumba, do give me a few tips that was useful to you and those who have never tried one, do join it if you love dancing. You don’t feel like you are exercising and you will be having a great fun workout.

Take care,

Gym and childcare

As I have mentioned in my post a while ago, I had joined a gym and was working out 3-4 times a week. I was feeling great and my body was enjoying the benefits but after a while I could not go as often as I liked and then I did not go for 6 weeks.

exercising (1)

To go to the gym I had to wake up at 5:30 am, feed Chhori and get ready by 6:00 am to start gym by 6:30 am. I need to be back home by 8:00 am so AS could leave for work. It was a good arrangement and AS could look after Chhori while I am gone.

But the morning after the nights Chhori woke me up more often, it was really hard for me to get up so early. There were days when it was hard for me to get up so early but I would have time the whole day but there was no one to look after Chhori for even a few hours while went to the gym thus I couldn’t enjoy working out.

But the problem was solved when I discovered a gym with childcare. Yes it was such a blessing to find one near me as well. We have a Fitness First gym near us where they have childcare facility. You need to pay $5 a day for this service which is a fair amount for the help you are getting. You can leave your baby for 90 minutes a day while you work out. They open from 9am till midday and it is just perfect for me.

So I joined this gym and I am happy to report I am exercising again after a 6 week gap. I am so excited at the thought that I will get back to my normal self again. They also have a swimming pool which is great for the hot weather.

I was a bit worried about Chhori and how she would adjust in the childcare as I am her primary carer since her birth. The only person who has looked after her beside me is my husband, that also not more than 2 hours at a time.

But I am so relieved to see her doing well at childcare. The girls there are great and very friendly and Chhori is well looked after. There are so many toys there that she easily gets distracted when I leave her there. It is only for 90 minutes so I don’t feel too guilty either.

Chhori (2)

In that 90 minutes I manage to either run, do some cardio, zumba or swim depending on the day. I am just loving my new routine. I wake up in the morning at the same time with AS. We all have breakfast together and then AS goes to work while Chhori and I go to the gym. Perfect as it can be.

Hope this new routine will get me into shape and I will be a healthier and happier person again.

If you are in a similar boat like me and your new bundle of joy is stopping you from exercising, this is the perfect solution. I am sure you will find something similar around you and believe me it will be an effort worth making at the end of the day.

Happy exercising everyone.
