Teej 2016 with Chhori and mum

Yesterday was Teej, a day when woman fast for the whole day for marital bliss, well-being of their spouse and children and purification of their own body and soul. Married women fast for their husband’s long life, prosperity and long and strong relationship between them until death in this life and all the lives to come, while the unmarried pray for the perfect husband. Unless someone is ill or physically unfit, fasting is followed by women and girls who have reached puberty.

Like every year, we celebrated Teej with lots of food and dancing but this year Teej was extra special for me because my mum is here with us.

Chhori has started enjoying and understanding celebrations too. She loves to be around people and wants to dance when the music is on. I am hoping she will be interested in Nepali culture and traditions in future when she has an understanding of their importance.

teej (9)

For the first time, I dressed Chhori in Kurta and Nepali chapal (Nepali velvet sandles) with chura (metal bangles). I know I am biased but I think she looked so cute in the traditional outfit.

teej (10)

And look our matching chapals, loved them.

teej (6)

I also dressed up in the traditional red outfit. The first celebration, we had was at my friend’s house. I baked a cake for the occasion and everyone contributed toward the food. We had a great time eating, dancing, laughing and having fun. Chhori also enjoyed in her own way :).

Then on Saturday, we went to a Teej celebration program organised by Nepali committees.

We dressed up again and enjoyed the celebration with hundreds of other ladies dancing and enjoying the yummy food.

Celebrating 5 years of happiness: Happy Anniversary dear husband

Yes it is 24 June again and we are celebrating our 5th Wedding Anniversary. I can’t believe that time has gone by so fast. It was on 24 June 2011, we tied the knot and since then every year we had an amazing anniversary celebration. Here are the links for 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. Also every year I have been writing a letter to AS to celebrate our milestones (2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015) and here is my letter for this year.

anniversary

Dear darling AS,

Five years ago today, we became husband and wife. We didn’t know where we were heading back then but we knew for sure that we belonged together. And now, half a decade later, I can say with absolute certainty that the past five years have been the best of my entire life.

my wedding

Our lives have changed so much now that we are parents but every day has been an awesome journey that I would not trade for the world. You are a great friend, husband and my rock.

sindoor at wedding

Every day, I see Chhori with you, I feel so blessed that we are so lucky to have a man who is so loving, caring, kind, thoughtful, gentle, calm, patient and wonderful in our life.

Chhori (2)

I love watching you play with her so patiently and talk to her. I love it when you tell her a story and put her to bed. You both are all that I could wish for in my life.

Chhori pasni (16)

Thank you for believing in me and for helping me believe in myself. You are a phenomenal dad and an even better husband. I am looking forward to so many anniversaries with you.

Happy Anniversary!!!

Always Yours,

M

P.S: We are going to lunch at Growings Bar and Grill and for a much needed massage afterwards so I’ll update with more later.

Till then take care.

Repost : Happy International Woman’s Day

Today is International Woman’s Day and it is a day to celebrate us, woman, and have respect, appreciation and love towards us. Because everything starts from you and if you don’t respect, appreciate and love yourself, you can’t share that with the world.

There are many reasons why this day is celebrated but I want to celebrate it by listing all the good reasons why I rejoice being a woman.

  • Woman is a daughter, sister, wife, mother and a friend. I can’t imagine this world without them. Yes, that is who we are.
  • Women have so many choices. They can work or stay home. Be a nurse or a soldier.
  • How can I forget to mention the choices women have in fashion. One can choose to wear jeans or skirts or dress or shorts or Kurta or Sari or Omani or Kimono or Shalwar Kameez. Anything your heart desires.
  • Talking about fashion, how about high heels, they are my favourite and give women an instant boost in height and confidence or they can choose to wear a ballet flat or thongs and still look beautiful.
  • Make-up is a part of our daily regime and we can experiment with different, glamorous looks.
  • Doors are held open for us, chairs are pulled out for us.
  • We could dye our hair and get rid of the gray without being ridiculed.
  • We have the gift of female intuition which usually steers us in the right direction.
  • Women are great listeners and don’t always feel they need to fix things.
  • We can wear coloured nail polish to match the season, mood or our clothing.
  • Women can multi-task with ease.
  • Women are intelligent enough to know there is no such thing as a “Happy Period.”
  • Chances are in front of every awesome man is an awesome woman who made him that way

I think the song by Helen Reddy sums of everything I want to express right now. This is for all the ladies out there. Here is the lyrics if you haven’t heard it before.

I am woman, hear me roar

In numbers too big to ignore

And I know too much to go back an’ pretend

’cause I’ve heard it all before

And I’ve been down there on the floor

No one’s ever gonna keep me down again

CHORUS

Oh yes I am wise

But it’s wisdom born of pain

Yes, I’ve paid the price

But look how much I gained

If I have to, I can do anything

I am strong (strong)

I am invincible (invincible)

I am woman

You can bend but never break me

’cause it only serves to make me

More determined to achieve my final goal

And I come back even stronger

Not a novice any longer

’cause you’ve deepened the conviction in my soul

CHORUS

I am woman watch me grow

See me standing toe to toe

As I spread my lovin’ arms across the land

But I’m still an embryo

With a long long way to go

Until I make my brother understand

Oh yes I am wise

But it’s wisdom born of pain

Yes, I’ve paid the price

But look how much I gained

If I have to I can face anything

I am strong (strong)

I am invincible (invincible)

I am woman

Oh, I am woman

I am invincible

I am strong

FADE

I am woman

I am invincible

I am strong

I am woman

Saying this I don’t hate men. I think we complement each other, like wheels of a bike. It is just that I am happy and content to be a woman and I won’t have it any other way.

To the all the ladies out there, Happy International Women’s Day. Enjoy and be proud of being a woman.

Take care everyone,

from nepaliaustralian

Happy 1st birthday Chhori!!!

If you have been reading my blog, you know that my parents have returned back to Sydney after 6 months in Nepal and I just stared work again (after a yearlong maternity leave) but the biggest news is that my munchkin, my heart, my life, is growing up so fast that she is turning ONE today.

chhori (3)

This post is dedicated to the very special person in my life, my beautiful daughter.

chhori (4)

It feels like it was just a few months ago that I announced here that I was pregnant. Then she came into our world making our life so colourful and lively.

The first time I saw her, I learned what unconditional love meant. I had never seen anyone or anything more beautiful. Since her arrival, she has brought so much happiness into our life that I will would never have it any other way.

Each day has been better than the day before and I know that the future will be even better.

chhori (1)

Her first touch, her first word, her first smile, her first crawl, her first laugh, and her first step, everything is so special.

Her laugh has become our new favourite sound in life.

When she calls me “Mama”, I am the happiest person in this world.

chhori (5)

“Happy 1st birthday to the child who stole our heart. You are the best gift that we have ever received and thank you for giving us a thousand reasons to smile every day.

Your birth brought happiness and joys. It reminds us of how lucky we are to have a cutie like you in our family. You are the most amazing little thing we have ever seen. Our little angel, may your special day and every day hence bring you as much happiness as you are bringing to all of us. (And please stop growing up so fast. :))

A year older, a lot wiser :)

On 28 October, I celebrated my birthday. A year seemed to just fly away so fast. It feels like it was just a few months ago that I celebrated my last birthday. It is always nice to look back on old birthday celebration posts in my blog. If you haven’t read them before here are some of the ways I celebrated my birthday in the past, 2011 ,2012, 2013 and 2014. Anyway it was my first birthday as a mum and it was just fantastic.

AS took a day off from work to spend the whole day with me so it was a lazy morning for us. We woke up late and went for a brunch to a really nice café with a cool decor and a good menu.

birthday (8)

AS ordered his big breakfast and I ordered Egg Benedict. I have to say the food was yummy and the coffee was good too.

birthday (2) birthday (6)
I was already full from the breakfast when AS surprised with a cake. It was a red half dome orange and chocolate cake. I was happy that AS even put a birthday message on the plate. I was one happy birthday girl for sure :).

birthday (5)

The best birthday gift I got that morning was from Chhori who slept through the whole brunch and some more to give me some time to spend with AS.

birthday (1)

In the evening, we were invited to my brother’s place for dinner.

birthday (7)

I got a surprise celebration there with a yummy birthday cake with my brother’s family and cousins too.

birthday (4)

Today, few of my friends came over with gifts and sweets to celebrate my birthday. It is really naice to be surrounded by such caring people.

I am just happy to be another year older with my love (AS) and my life (Chhori) by my side.

birthday (3)

I am sure I am a lot wiser too as I have become a mum this year which has taught me lots of new things in life.

Wishing everyone a very Happy Halloween.

birthday (9)

Take care everyone till the next post.
