Our Story : Enjoying holiday – Part 21

This is a continuation of my previous posts. Please read the previous posts here.

We took a few more tours while we were in Bangkok and they were quite interesting.

Floating Market

I had heard a lot about the floating markets in Thailand so we planned to see it. Damnoen Saduak Floating Markets is a prime tourist attraction that not too far from Bangkok.

We were picked up from the hotel in a van and driven 100 km southwest of Bangkok to Damnoen Saduak. As soon as we were in the canal area I saw lots of floating boats some with tourists and some selling colourful souvenirs, fruits and other items.

The floating markets of Thailand is a great place to view colourful boats with vendors selling fruits, vegetables and other delicious goods. It’s a great place to also see a traditional way of buying and selling goods of the Thais.

The best things about these markets are the food stalls. There is no Thai dish you cannot find here. The hardest decision is narrowing down your choice to one or two. Squashed in amongst the food and tables lining the canals are handicrafts, plants and clothing stores too.

Thailand (19)

We were asked to hop into one of the boats and we had a guide who took us around the 32 km canal. Sitting on a wooden long tail boat, we ventured out to the floating market. It was fun passing through narrow canal lanes and underneath bridges. It was a really fun way of seeing the market.

Thailand (21)

Once we were back where we had started, we had some time to look around by ourselves. I ended up buying lots of souvenirs like a floating boat, a tuk tuk, a hat and a beaded earring.

Thailand (20)

River Kwai and The Jeath War Museum

The next stop for us was in Kanchanaburi province where we went and visited the war museum and the river Kwai.

Thailand (4)

Once there we went to the war museum and there were lots of information about World War II.  Then we went to the bridge over the river Kwai which was built-in World War II.

Thailand (23)

The JEATH War Museum is situated on the junction of the Rivers Khwae Yai and Khwae Noi, right on top of the old rail tracks. The name is an acronym recognising the primary nationalities of those involved in the construction of the Death Railway; Japanese, English, Australian, American, Thai and Holland. To the locals it is known simply as the Wat Tai War Museum.

Thailand (7) Thailand (2)

The museum is divided into several sections. While the main path through the exhibitions charts Thailand’s involvement in the Pacific War (from the first invasion through to the destruction of the bridge, and finally Japan’s retreat accompanied by the release of prisoners), other areas offer a range of different perspectives on the region.

Thailand (25) Thailand (22) Thailand (5)

One room focuses on the prehistoric evolution of the area, while another charts the annual winners of the Miss Thailand competition. There seem to be Buddhist shrines tucked away into every empty corner, and there isn’t an inch of wall space that hasn’t been written on. Some of it in Thai, other passages in French, English or German, and these verses range from military history through to religious philosophy. To read them all would have taken a day at least.

Perhaps the most striking feature of the museum however, are the wooden effigies used to depict the suffering of Allied POWs. Carved in a similar style to those that appear in Thailand’s numerous Buddhist Hell Gardens, these often crude figures show naked men engaged in hard labour, being tortured, or lying dead and bloody at the bottom of rivers.

Thailand (3) Thailand (1)

The intention is to shock… but also to bring home the very real pain and suffering which prisoners were subjected to. Towards the end of the museum, a courtyard is walled in with mounted figures of WWII’s military leaders: Churchill and De Gaulle; Mussolini and Hitler; Japanese Generals Tōjō and Yamashita; Joseph Stalin and General Douglas MacArthur. On an adjacent wall, written in both Thai and English, hangs a sign which reads, “War is sinful behaviour”.

Perhaps the most poignant feature at the JEATH War Museum however, is the broken wooden structure which protrudes from the riverbank beneath an observation platform. This is all that now remains of the former bridge, and is a stark reminder of the tragedy that befell here; in 1945 both the Royal Air Force and the US Army Air Force mounted bombing raids on the bridge, but after both attacks it was repaired using prisoner labour.

Thailand (6) Thailand (24)

Finally, on 24th June 1945, an RAF squadron was ordered to halt the Japanese movement into Burma at any cost. Fearing defeat, the Japanese filled the bridge with as many Allied prisoners as they could fit, in a hope to deter the bombers. It failed however, and when the bridge was finally put out of action, its destruction came at a cost of many Allied lives.

Kanchanaburi’s ‘Tiger Temple’

The last stop of the day was the Tiger Temple and it was the highlight of our trip. It is a Buddhist temple where there were many monks, lots of tigers and few other creatures.

Thailand (17)

Almost a decade ago, monks started to look after tiger cubs whose mothers had allegedly been killed by poachers. With the outbreak of tiger-euphoria, tourists reported enthusiastically how the monks of this remote temple devotedly cared for the animals. Initially there were just a few young tigers – joined by freely roaming deer and other small mammal species. Therefore, it all started as a neat little temple zoo with lovely deer, orphaned tiger cubs and monks as keepers.

Thailand (18)

For around fifty dollars each, we were allowed to be up-close and personal with the tigers. This was 600 Bhat admissions and 1000 Bhat for photo with the tigers. It was a really unique experience and I was a bit scared but then it was all good as there was a guide with us all the time. I patted the tiger and he didn’t eat me 🙂

Thailand (8) Thailand (10) Thailand (14)

We also saw a cub on the way back and we were allowed to take pictures and pat it. It was a really nice experience.

Thailand (15) Thailand (16)

After coming back from the holiday, I did some research about the place and I found lots of negative things so I am still confused as to what to believe.

Thailand (12) Thailand (10) Thailand (11) Thailand (13)

Also if you are going there make sure you wear a covered dress as they will not allow you in otherwise as they have a dress code for both men and women.

By the time we got back to Bangkok both of us were tired and ready for bed.

For the next few days in Bangkok, we met AS’s cousin and went shopping. I was feeling sad already as I knew we were going to different places once the holiday was over.

More on that in the next post. Till then take care.

Our Story : Phi Phi and Krabi – Part 19

This is a continuation of my previous posts. Please read the previous posts here.

Every moment I spent with AS was so precious and both of us were so happy together. I didn’t want to think about anything else but us at that point. I felt blessed that AS was in my life and couldn’t wait for him to come to Sydney to spend the rest of our life together.

I felt a sense of stability with him and I couldn’t imagine my life without him. That amazing bliss we felt when together was like sunshine, happiness, and chocolate cake all rolled up in one. I felt our relationship was made in heaven and he was the man that was going to be my husband.

Phi Phi

To visit Phi Phi Island, we booked the tour and arranged to be picked up from the hotel at 7.45 am. The tour included island visit, snorkeling, lunch, afternoon tea and pick up/ drop off to the hotel.

We slept late the night before so I was struggling to wake up in the morning. AS was already awake and had his shower. I quickly ran to the shower and got ready. Then we rushed to the rooftop of the hotel for our breakfast. We waited for the van to pick us up to go to the port where the boat was waiting for us to take us to Phi Phi.

The van picked up a few more people on the way to Karon beach where we were briefed on our day. We all were given a sticker so the guide would know that we belong to his group. Everyone introduced themselves and we found out that there were three friends from Poland, a couple from Perth, a couple from India on their honeymoon and a few other people.

We took a speedboat and were on our way. I sat next to AS and held his hand and looked one of the best views I have ever seen. After almost an hour’s ride the boat stopped for our first stop in Maya Bay Island.

Phi Phi (2)

Ever since seeing the movie, The Beach, I have been interested in the island. The view was really breath-taking and the water was crystal clear and the sand amazingly white. The guide told us we had an hour there.

At one end of the beach, there were boats lined up against it. There were so many people on the island, so many boats in the water, and so much going on. Everyone seemed relaxed, taking photos or swimming or lying on the beach getting a tan.

Phi Phi (1)

We decided to snorkeled for a while. It was just beautiful and after a few minutes’ walk on the beach our time was up. So we hopped on the boat again.

After half an hour on the boat, they stopped at a new area for snorkeling.  It is on the other side of Maya bay. The place looked stunning and when we snorkeled, we saw lots of beautiful and healthy coral.

Phi Phi (4)

We stayed about 20 minutes as they fed bread to the fish so they would swarm around us. We saw some great fish, a lot were the same but the colours were bright and they ranged in all sizes. We saw a big bright blue one that shimmered in the turquoise water and with the sunlight shining through. I wish we had more time there but we were back on boat and off to the next stop, Monkey Beach.

As soon as I got to the beach, I saw lots of monkeys around. I am really scared of monkeys so I didn’t dare to go close but AS was running behind the monkeys taking their photos.

The place was just divine and the day was perfect. The guide informed us that we would have our lunch there and then we could go out and explore the place.

We went to this small restaurant where the table was set for our lunch. It was Thai lunch with chicken curry, seafood, vegetables and rice. We love Thai food so I and AS were happy with the food while some of the other people were complaining about the food.

Phi Phi (6)

The lunch was actually quite nicely presented and delicious with a wide array of choices. They also served tropical fruits platter. There were some girls selling ice-cream so I ordered vanilla ice-cream with mango topping and AS ordered chocolate ice-cream with chocolate topping.

I always think having an open mind and enjoying the local cuisine is the best way to explore a new place. That is how you learn more about the food, the place and the people. I have always found Thai people to be friendly and very helpful. The whole time we were there we never had any problem with people or food.

Phi Phi (5)

After the lunch we walked around and took some photos. As we were informed earlier that there would be another snorkeling session in the middle of the ocean so we decided to just walk on the beach and play with the water until we went on the boat again.

The place was really beautiful and I know I could live there forever. I even suggested to AS that maybe we should move to Thailand to live there one day 🙂

Phi Phi (3).

Then it was time for us to go back to our boat. After a short ride, we stopped again and it was another beautiful spot. The water was crystal clear, shiny, with marvellous turquoise colour tones and very clean. It’s a true luxury to take a swim when the water temperature is just perfect so you can cool off from the summer heat. The guide threw some food on the water and we could see so many colourful fish swimming towards us. We were near the reef so the floor of the ocean was just below us.

By the time we were done and were escorted back to the both, both of us were very tired. They gave us some juice and fruits and we were on our way back to the mainland. It felt like a very long time to reach the mainland and we just cuddled and enjoyed the view.

It was great to be in AS’s arms and enjoy the magnificent view of the lovely beaches and surroundings. The van was waiting for us to drop us off at our hotel and a warn shower in the hotel felt beautiful on my skin after the wonderful trip.

Late that night we went for massage and dinner and came back straight to sleep as we had another trip booked for the following day to go to Karbi.

Krabi

We had decided that we also needed to do a trip to Krabi since AS’s cousin highly recommended it. As it was more remote than Phi Phi, she said it had even better views, less people and amazing atmosphere. So we booked our trip through the hotel again. This trip cost us around AUD$80 p/p which also included island visit, snorkeling, lunch, afternoon tea and pick up/ drop off to our hotel.

I was so exhausted from the trip the previous day that I was too tired to wake up and get ready for the trip. AS made sure that I was awake and ready for breakfast before the van comes to pick us up. I took my own time waking up so I had to quickly get ready and rushed through breakfast to catch the van.

As on our previous tours, a van came to pick us up and then picked up a few other people on the way to the port. We were given a sticker and we introduced ourselves. This group was smaller than the one we went to Phi Phi with.

We were doing the trip to three islands of Ko Poda, Ko Gai (Chicken Island) and Ko Tub, with its sweeping three-pronged sandbar, plus the beautiful Phra Nang Cave Beach on the Railay peninsula.

Krabi (1)

It took us more than an hour in the speed boat to reach our first stop in Krabi Koh Poda but it was all worth it when I saw the magnificent view once we reached there. It was a real quiet island and there was one another boat only so I felt like we were in some remote part of the world, far away from civilization.

Krabi (4)

When we arrived it was a sunny day with blue sky. For the holiday we were blessed with perfect weather on every trip we had taken thus far. We had time to relax and see the place while the lunch was getting ready. One of our favourite things to do is to take long walks on the beach.

The remote island meant we had the beach all to ourselves and we enjoyed every minute. I was having so much fun on the beach that I got carried away and made a big heart in the sand and wrote A+ M.

The beach is famous for its white beaches and turquoise water and we were not disappointed. It was great to swim and relax before the lunch was served.

Krabi (3)

After that we went to Chicken Island, with the odd rocky outcrop that earned it its name makes a good photo op. Chicken Island is really called “Axe Island” or Koh Hua Gwan; it was dubbed “that chicken island” by Krabi’s first tourists and the nickname stuck.

After a few photos we were taken to snorkeling sites near Ko Yawasam and Ko See, rocky outcrops with abundant coral reefs and marine life. The backdrop for swimming was stunning with the huge limestone cliffs towering in the background. The sunset over the water was the best I’ve seen.  So beautiful and romantic 🙂

Krabi (2)

For afternoon refreshment fruits were served and I was tired but happy to get back to our warm bed. It was a long ride back to the port and then to the hotel.

We changed, got ready and went for dinner which was followed by an hour long aromatherapy massage and I also had manicure and pedicure.  It was great to be able to relax at the end of the day.

Next stop, Bangkok 🙂

Till then, take care.

Our Story : We meet again – Part 18

This is a continuation of my previous posts. Please read the previous posts here.

I am sure you know by now that holiday makes me super happy and imagine a holiday that involves AS; I definitely was over the moon. To top it all this was our first holiday together. It has been 2 months since I last saw him at Kathmandu airport.

I have mentioned before, airport has become a huge part of our life and this time it was going to be Suvarnabhumi Airport Bangkok. We booked our flights around the same time and had connection flight taking us to Phuket.

Leading to the holiday, we planned our days so we can do and see as much things as possible. One of the highlights of this trip was to spend 24/7 with each other.

So I left Sydney with the teddy AS sent me for Valentine’s day before AS left Bangalore but he arrived there before me as it was a shorter trip from India. When I landed, I was a bit worried about how to find him in that big airport. AS told me he will find me and not to worry at all. So when my flight landed and I walked out of the plane I was eagerly looking around to get glimpse of him.

There were so many people there that it seemed impossible to spot him. I was mentally making a plan on how to find him when luckily I saw him in the foyer. I felt so good to see him and it was a huge relief. I ran like a crazy gal to hug him and didn’t let him go for a few minutes. I was so glad to be in his arms after the long gap and it was one of the best moments of our life.

After the initial talk, we went to queue up to check in to go to Phuket. There was a long queue and it looked like everyone was going there but I didn’t care much. I was just happy to be in AS’s arms again I held his hands all the way , not letting go of him. It is the best feeling when we are reunited with our love ones.

Phuket

The flight from Bangkok to Phuket was short so we finally landed in Phuket. We had organised airport pickup from the hotel so it was a quick exit from immigration to the outside. We saw our name on the name card and followed the guy so he could drop us at the hotel. The cab driver told us it had been raining for the last few weeks but had stopped that morning. I prayed there would be no rain during our stay there.

The hotel we booked in Phuket was near the beach so we could spend lots of time doing touristic things. When we reached the hotel, we were welcomed with complementary drinks and fruit platter. After check-in we decided to rest for a few hours before going out as it was so hot and humid during the day.

It was perfect time to catch up and as always, I had so much to tell him. I was over the moon that AS bought few saris and Bollywood gossip magazines for me.

Phuket (1)I had bought a special bracelet for him with our initials engraved on it.

Phuket (2)

It was just awesome to be next to each other and feel the love. We rest and had lunch at the hotel.

Phuket (3)

As the evening breeze started, we got ready and went out to discover the city.

Phuket was amazing. I had heard so much about the place that I felt I kind of knew it well even when it was my first visit there. And the environment, the weather and people around us was making our stay even more special. My good friend SL is from Thailand so she had given us lots of tips on what to do and where to go while we were there.

The first stop was Patong. We just walked along the beach and enjoyed the sunset by the water.

Phuket (4)

Phuket (5)

As the night fell, we decided to have our dinner. The good thing about Thailand is that they have a variety of food to try and they are super cheap compared to Australia.  That evening we had Lobster and crab for dinner and were amazed to find them as cheap as $5. To top it all they tasted great and we decided that we would come back again next time to enjoy more.

We came back to the hotel and were so tried that we fall asleep. I slept really well and was woken up my AS’s sweet voice the next morning. We had breakfast at the hotel and decided to explore the place some more. I wanted to finish the shopping first so we don’t have to worry about it later.

Phuket (6)

We went shopping in the markets and the mall. I was surprised to find a Nepali speaking person in almost every shop. They were Burmese whose ancestors had gone to Burma from Nepal and had recently been displaced from Burma. They wanted to be known as Gorkhalis. That was one fact about Thailand that no one had told me about before. Me and AS were talking in Nepali while shopping and the guy in the shop started to talk in Nepali to us. We both were very surprised but then after we were communicating in Nepali in many other shops.

We met lots of these Burmese Gorkhali and got discount as they said “Because you are Nepali I will give you at this price”. It was funny to hear that in Patong.

This was the first time AS actually saw me shopping. I bought heaps of stuffs as gifts and for myself. He was surprised that I wanted everything in the shops. I told him that they are some nice stuff and they are super cheap so I need to get them. I knew I will be shopping a lot so I had an empty suitcase when I left Sydney 🙂 . Poor AS had no clue how much a girl could shop until he met me.

I had to force him to buy a few stuff for himself as well. Everywhere we went when I suggested to him to buy something; he would say that he already had it. I guess men are like that but AS is too laid back in shopping.

After a while we got tired and went to find a place to sit down in the mall. We had lunch and the food was really yummy as usual. After resting for a while, we explored some more and discovered lots of new things about Thailand like their food market where you can find all kind of food.

It seemed like people were awake when the sun sets in Pukhet and the most happening place for nightlife is Bangla road in Patong. It is a long strip of road with nightclubs on both sides of the road. I am sure everyone who goes to Phuket goes there. We saw lots of tourists in the bars and nightclubs.

It is famous for its raunchy nightlife. I had heard lots of horror stories of people who picked girls in these clubs to realise they were transvestite or as the Thai called them, Lady Boys. I think everyone will be confused because they are so beautiful and dressed in sexy outfits (Ooops).

By the time we saw Bangla road night life I was too tired so we decided to call it a day.

Before going to the hotel, we decided to go for a massage and it was the best decision as we discovered that it was really cheap like AUD$15 and you can choose from different types of massage like Thai massage or aromatherapy massage. After this discovery, we had a massage every night while we were there. It was great to lie down for a massage after a long day out.

We had dinner at the hotel and went to bed as we had a few trips booked for the next few days to discover the beautiful islands around Phuket.

This is it for now. I will share our Phi Phi, Krabi and more adventures in Thailand in my next post.

Till then, take care.

Our Story : Our first Valentine’s day – Part 17

This is a continuation of my previous post. Please read the previous posts here, Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5 , Part 6 , Part 7 ,Part 8 ,Part 9 , Part 10 , Part 11 , Part 12 ,Part 13 , Part 14. , Part 15 and Part 16

I am sure you all know by now I am a hopeless romantic. I was eagerly looking forward our holiday to Thailand but before that, there was one more celebration. Yes, it was 14th of February and it was our first Valentine’s Day. Bubbling with excitement and anticipation, I spent hours thinking what I should do to make the day special. Luckily for both of us, it was our day off so we were planning to spend most of the day Skyping. In addition, I want to make the day memorable and was thinking what I should do to make it special for him. I really wanted to surprise AS with something, as I love surprises.

We both decided that our holiday the following month would be the best Valentine’s Day gift we could give each other. I told him not to spend money buying overpriced flowers and I would be happier shopping with that money in Thailand instead. But when he talked to me, I got the feeling that he was keeping a secret and that he was planning something. I had to restrain my excessive curiosity. After all, I wanted to be surprised so I didn’t push for any hints.

On my part, I tried to think of a nice way to show him that I loved him. I really wanted to send him a small cupid but I couldn’t find anything online that would be delivered to him. So I had to settle for a heart shaped cake with a cupid on it, a card and a rose. I knew that it was not what I really wanted to give him as a first Valentine’s Day gift but it was all I could do when we were thousands of kilometres apart.

If he had been here, we definitely would have done it differently. I would have made sure that he had breakfast in bed and we would have spent the day enjoying each other’s company followed by a romantic dinner somewhere nice. Then there would be a bubble bath in a hot tub with aromatic candles flickering on the side. But alas that was just a dream and I had to keep reminding myself that it would happen soon enough when AS moved to Sydney and all I needed to do was to be patience.

So Valentine’s Day arrived. The morning seemed more refreshing than usual. I got up early, had my breakfast and finished all the chores to have a free afternoon to talk with AS. I knew AS would still be sleeping and didn’t want to wake him up too early. I had already placed my order for him so was expecting it to be delivered around mid-day. I hadn’t told him anything as I knew it would be a nice surprise.

After I was done, I logged on to Skype and there was a message from AS. It said,

Wake me up when you see this message.

Wish you a very happy first Valentine’s Day my love.

I love you a lot baby.

 :-*  :-* :-*

Talk to you soon love.

Looking at the time I knew that he was up late the night before so I decided to wait for him to wake up and come online. I so wanted to talk to him but I knew it would be better for both of us if he was fresh and not tired with lack of sleep. I watched my rerun of the Sex and the City series and enjoyed Carrie Bradshaw‘s amazing world.

When it was around mid-day, he came online and I was so happy to see him. I was so looking forward to talk to him.

AS: Good morning love.

Me: Morning my dear. Happy Valentine’s Day baby; wish you were here and I could have given you big hug and a kiss.

AS: I will be with you soon baby. Just count the days.

Me: I can’t wait for Thailand. Few more weeks 🙂.

AS: I know, I am counting too. Why didn’t wake me up earlier?

Me: I wanted you to have some rest.

AS: Thank you baby but you could have waked me up at least a few hours ago.

Me: So what is the plan for today?

AS: No plans. Just want to be online with you so we can have a special day.

Me: I love your plan 🙂

AS: Good. I do too.

It was such a great feeling to be able to have a Valentine and more important to be loved so much that I thanked god to have given me AS in my life. Love always sounds so cliché until you fall for someone and you realise that everything they told you about love is so true. I couldn’t believe that I loved AS so much.

We were having a great afternoon and I was having an awesome time but something was bothering me. It was past midday in AS’s place and still no one had called AS to deliver my gifts. I started getting worried that he was not getting anything and I had also lost my money. I had ordered it online and it was a company that I had used in the past. They had always delivered my order on time but this time I thought they had failed me on this important day. I really wanted him to get the gifts that afternoon when we were together online.

I knew they must be very busy because of Valentine’s Day so was holding my silence for another couple of hours before I asked AS if anyone had called. Those hours passed as well and there was no sign of anything so finally I had to ask AS just so that I know what is going on. Normally they call in the morning and deliver by the afternoon but it looked like AS hadn’t got any call at all. Otherwise, he would have mentioned it.

Me: Hey did anyone call this morning?

AS: What do you mean?

Me: Just asking if you got any call from anyone this morning like someone you didn’t know or a miss call on your mobile.

AS: No, why

Me: No just asking.

AS: You mean did someone call me to give this?

And he showed me the card, cake and flower I had sent him. I was a bit annoyed with him that he didn’t tell me that he had received it already. He was waiting for me to bring that up while at my end, I was worried that he didn’t have it.

Me: OMG, I can’t believe that you didn’t say anything to me. I was so worried.

AS: I know but I was waiting for you to tell me.

Me: I am really angry now that you left me hanging so long.

AS: Hahaha come on, I wanted to surprise you and it was worth the reaction I got.

Me: Not fun for me for sure.

AS: Ohoo baby come on. Sorry, that I didn’t tell you straight away but thank you so much. I loved the card, the cake and the flowers. I haven’t cut the cake yet because I wanted to do it while you were still online.

Me: Still you should have told me as soon as you got it. BTW when did you get that?

AS: A few hours ago when I was talking to you. Remember I went out for a few minutes? That is when they had come. Thank you so much for it baby. It was very thoughtful of you and I loved it so much. But it is not fair because we said no gifts.

Me: I know we did but I just wanted to surprise you, I hope I did.

AS: Of course, you did my love. Thank you so much.

He showed me the cake, the flowers and the card even though I was on Skype and couldn’t see it properly. I asked him to describe what the cake looked like.

He said it is pink with pink flower on the top. I was surprised that they delivered the wrong cake so I asked him to send me the photo. When I saw the photo I was shocked. I actually ordered for him this beautiful white vanilla cake with red cupid on the top. Around the cake were red hearts making the cake so meaningful for Valentine’s Day.

valentine's day (1)

What he got was a pink heart shaped cake with some pink stuff on the top which didn’t look anything like a cupid. If I didn’t know what it was meant to be, I would have been super confused. In addition, the hearts around the cake were upside down. I am sure I could have baked a better cake than that. I really don’t know what kind of business those people were running but it was surely a disaster.

valentine's day (5)

We didn’t like the cake much so I thought I should let them know what happened so I wrote the following email to the company, Thamel online, regarding the cake but they never got back to me. Therefore, I stopped using that company.

Hi

Thank you for delivering my gift. Just want to let u know I was a bit disappointed with the decoration of the cake. This cake was more expensive than other cakes and I chose this cake especially because there was a cupid on the top but when he got the cake it didn’t even look like a cupid. I am sending the pics 4 comparison. Hope you will take more care about these things in the future as we sends gifts 4 sentimental value and it is not just a cake for us.

M

Now coming back to our Valentine’s Day. We had a good laugh about the cake. I sent AS the original picture of the cake promising him that my intention had been good. He knew that and told me not to worry about it at all. He cut the cake and told me it was quite sweet but he would definitely have some for sure as I sent it especially for him on our first Valentine’s Day.

I couldn’t believe that we spent almost 8 hours online talking to each other. Definitely one of the best Valentine’s Day of my life.

Then AS’s told me something that would make our first Valentine’s Day more interesting still. Sometimes love across borders has more than a few hurdles to overcome. He asked me if anyone called or delivered something to me and I was surprised. It was 9pm my time then so he was worried that I didn’t receive anything at all.

AS: Did anyone called or leave something for you at the door.

Me: They didn’t. I have been in front of the computer all day, with you.

AS: Come on don’t lie if you have received something.

Me: I swear nothing came and I am not hiding anything from you.

AS: That is really bad then.

He had placed an order for a Valentine’s Day gift for me a few days before to be delivered on this day but I didn’t get anything and so he was obliged to ask.

AS: Let me call the company and find out what is happening.

I waited while he got on the phone.

AS: They said that they have delivered it today. They said no one was home so they left it at the door.

I went out and checked and there was nothing there.

Me: You know I was home all day and no one has buzzed or called me. They normally call when no one answers the door so I don’t know what is happening baby but thank you so much anyway. Tell me what you had sent. I am just very happy that you sent me something :).

AS: I better keep that a surprised as half of it is already ruined. Ok let me call them and will be back in a minute.

It took him a while but they told him that they were very busy that day and they are still delivering so I might get it in the next few hours. I doubted that as it was 9.30 pm but I didn’t say anything. He seemed unhappy about what happened but I assured him that it was OK. I was just glad he had put so much thought into our relationship and tried his best to send something for me.

I talked to him for another hour and went to bed happy. Even though I hadn’t received anything and he received the awful cake, we both had thought of each other and we were so much in love that it didn’t matter. It was just awesome that we had each other.valentine's day (2)

The gift he sent me didn’t come the next day either but came the day after AS emailed the company twice to complain of the lost order. What an awful service that they didn’t even pick up the call and had to be emailed to get a response from them.

valentine's day (4)

Finally, I received his Valentine’s gift. It was a teddy bear with I Love You written on it, a card and red roses. I was happy to receive them but the company neither apologised nor contacted either of us regarding their mistake. Definitely not a good company that delivers Valentine’s Day gift on 16th of February.

The company is called freshflowersandgifts.com.au if you are wondering.

Anyway, as usual our first Valentine’s Day was quite an adventure even though both of us were thousands of miles apart Skyping the whole day.

Next Stop Thailand, so see you there with another post soon.

Till then, take care.

Our Story : Apart again – Part 16

This is a continuation of my previous post. Please read the previous posts here, Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5 , Part 6 , Part 7 ,Part 8 ,Part 9 , Part 10 , Part 11 , Part 12 ,Part 13 , Part 14. and Part 15

It felt like our relation had more time with us being apart than together.

After the engagement ceremony, we had only a few days before I was packing my bag to go back to Sydney. I had a job interview in a few days once I landed.

The day I was to leave for Sydney, my mum gave me Sagun and my parents along with my aunts, uncles, cousins and AS came to drop me to the airport. Well, what can I say; airports can be so exciting, yet so sad. Just a month before, I was outside Trivbhuvan International airport and was so excited when AS was coming out of those gates and then it was that day I was outside the same airport and I was so sad.

It was so hard for me to leave the country this time as I felt I hadn’t spent enough time with my parents and AS. There were so many things incomplete on my list but I had no choice but to leave.

It was such a sad day when I left Kathmandu. I lingered outside the airport longer than usual talking to my parents and AS. I looked into AS’s eyes and I could see that he was sad as well because we didn’t have enough time together. We wanted to but the circumstances were not on our side. When I entered the airport door for departure, my heart was very heavy. I didn’t turn around and look back because I knew my mum would have tears on her eyes and it would be very hard for me to control my emotions.

The long walk to the check-in counter, the look in their eyes, my feelings, their feelings, so many things combined, then, the moment of truth… saying good-bye one last time through the glass doors before taking the escalator to go to upper level.

Lots of feelings, emotions, and thoughts came to my mind.Questions like what next? When I am going to see AS again? What’s gonna happen with the job? Etc. I had to remind myself that it is not going to be for 10 years this time.

By the time I reached Singapore airport, I was tried and couldn’t wait to find a Wi-Fi hotspot so I could talk to my parents and AS. First I called my parents to tell them that I had reached Singapore safely and would talk to them soon after I land in Sydney. Then I called AS and he came on Skype.

Me: I miss you already

AS: I know baby but we will be together soon.

Me: I am not sure if I made the right decision coming back to Sydney so soon.

AS: I am sure you did love. We will be fine.

Me: Ohoo I hope so. I better get that job …

AS: You will. I am sure

Me: I am not so sure but hope you are right. I love you AS

AS:I love you too baby. Now cheer up. You will do great

Despite AS’s assurance, I had my doubts.

Anyway we talked for a while until it was time for me to board the plane. I was glad he was there during the transit so I was not lonely.

The flight from Singapore to Sydney was long and tiring. Normally I don’t mind flying but I was not in a very high spirit. I tried to watch as many movies as possible and not to think at all.

Once I was back in Sydney, life was back to normal again with Skype keeping us together. Now it was harder to be apart as the relation was new and we both wanted to spend more time together. We tried our best to talk as much as possible as AS was on holiday, it helped a lot. I have to admit he woke up early or stayed awake just to talk to me for a few minutes sometimes. As I was back to work, he managed according to my timetable and I am very grateful for his understanding.

Finally, the day for my job interview came. I was a bit nervous about it but made sure I dressed well for the first impression. They hadn’t seen me yet as my first interview was over the phone.

I wore a white shirt, black skirt with black shoes. I bought a new jacket and made sure I looked professional. When I reached the office, there were 3 people in the interview panel.

I think I was there for 20 minutes and they all asked different questions. I answered best to my knowledge and I thought the interview went well. It took a week for them to get back with the result and I was so glad that I finally got the job. I was to start the next month.

Getting the job definitively made it worth for me to travel back to Sydney but that also meant that I won’t be able to go back to Nepal for 6 months or more. My parents and AS were happy that the outcome was positive and all was good at the end.

Now I had to finalised my old job and get ready for the new one. I made sure there were few weeks off in between so I could rest and start fresh.

In the meantime, AS finished his holiday in Nepal and left for India to continue working there. As we didn’t have a definitive plan, he thought it was a good idea for him to keep working but he decided not to go to US yet. All these uncertainties meant we might be apart for a few months or a whole year; who knew at that time.

While Skyping one day, I came up with a brilliant idea to meet again. It would be 2 months by then that I had seen AS so I suggested we should take a holiday together in Thailand. AS was on board with the idea so we booked our tickets and hotels. I am sure it might have need some convincing in AS’s job for him to take another holiday so soon but it was going to be for 10 days long only.

I was excited again because I knew that I was going to see him soon. In the meantime AS decided to move to Australia to be with me instead of going back to the US. I told him that if things didn’t work out here then I would be happy to move to US in the future. Also as I got a new job it seemed liked a good solution.

So the visa process to come to Sydney was started while I was day dreaming and counting days to meet him in Bangkok.

Will write more soon. Please come back for more.

Till then, take care.

XOXO
